Can anyone diagnose this?

I'm about put my Epi Dot Studio up for sale but I need someone to give me their opinion on this...

It looks like a scratch in the paint work to me, the guitar plays fine and has no problems and hasn't been exposed to excessive heat or cold but there's this weird little crack/scratch thing going on. It's a bit worrying 'cos it's where the neck is joined to the body. Anyone have any idea what might be going on or had a similar problem? It has been gigged a few times so it might have been from a knock but I don't think it's been treated that rough.

I can't see a thing. Point to it. Focus.

It's bloody hard on this camera. It always catches the light and the focus is terrible. Here's a better effort.

Looks to me like the laquer is splitting a bit. fairly typical I'd think.

Part of me was desperately hoping you were talking about the reflections of the strings, and part of me was dreading it. Looks to me as if the binding has come off a little, perhaps from a knock or if it gets picked up a lot around the base of the neck and a hand has caught it. Doesn't look serious at all, imo D:

For the sake of clarity here's the bit I mean, the binding is just an imperfection 'cos it's a cheapy guitar.

Haha, I see. I still wouldn't worry about it.

That's a relief then, I can imagine it'll affect people's interest and the final price though unfortunately.

I dunno what to say in the auction though 'cos I want to be honest with it. Maybe 'split in lacquer' like ends suggested? That does seem the most likely - I need more opinions :(

dude, your dot studio has white binding? wtf. these guitars are inconsistent as all hell. mine is solid gloss black. and then I've seen ones that are solid matte black.

the binding is the best one though.

Are you sure it's not just residue from the polish they use during manufacture? My old dot had some gather there.

This is what I thought; looks like polishing compound - run over it with a toothpick?

Ah nice one guys! It came off with a bit of toothpick love. It's funny, I never noticed it before and I've had it three and a half years. I guess I didn't pay much attention until now cos I want to sell it or maybe strumming it at some point made it show up.

Cheers!
