"Some old Gibson"

Post by Haze »

So my dad was out at my grandpa's [his dad's] place in the middle of nowhere and he mentioned "some old Gibson" that was in his attic and has been there ever since he moved in and threw it up there years ago. He said he got the guitar when he was 9 [he's in his 60s now] and it was used then. He didn't know much else about the guitar other than it the tuners had been replaced and it wasn't a full length guitar. He was also offered $900 in the '70s for it but didn't take it. My Dad is out at his shack now about an hour away and he said he would bring it home tonight. Super excited to see/find out what it is. It WILL be repaired if it is needed and will stay in the family for sure.

Really excited, but i'm off to work until 10pm then i've got to throw everything into my car and go to sleep so i can wake up at 4am and drive to Colorado [13 hour drive woot woot!]

So i'll put up pics and drive off into the sunset tonight/tomorrow morning.

Don't know if i'll be anywhere where there is internet during my trip [boonies] but my iphone has internets so if i have coverage i can keep up with this and keep you guys posted on it.

EXCITE, sorry for the thread before pics.

Gibson LG series, near as I can figure. Some had cloth braces, which look strange but are totally stock.

Let's all continue to guess what is is for the next 3 pages or so.

i was going to say lg-2 as humming birds are 20 frets (?) but lg's have such huge necks, i'm just pulling for something a little easier to play :D

It's safe to guess the age as mid-'40s me thinks.

With any luck it's a Nick Lucas Signature - those things are amazing.

It sounds like it doesn't matter too much what it is. It's sweet!

How about a 1933-34 Gibson L-C Century of Progress model?

I think it's a 1958 Moderne prototype. With a sticker of Woody Woodpecker smoking a cigar.

Its an early '48 LG-1, Its been in the family for 49 years
48 was the first year for the block Gibson logo to be back on the guitars
This one is latter bracing, the cross bracing ones are more desirable.
Its basically an affordable beginners guitar.

and now i have to leave for a week and a half. WOOT WOOT
My dad is going to have it worked on, to what extent i don't know. But my uncle [the owner of that 64 jag that i sleep over] is a big acoustic nut, he claims the best guy to work on these old gibsons is right here in town, so WOOT WOOT.

That guitar looks great for a '48 guitar! Hope she plays well.

Haze, can I join your family? First a 64 Jaguar, now a 48 Gibson acoustic. What's next a family member the original Fender Prototype electric guitar? Has the guitar been apart of your family history?
Oh, and sorry about all the questions.
