It's definitely different, the Deluxe is a thicker and more clubby neck. I think the Custom is still substantial and on the thick side of things, but the Tele Deluxe is a clubby bastard and I loved that neck so fucking much.

It's just connected to the wrong guitar :-/

I think I'm gonna look into getting a tele deluxe, and I really liked the neck - even though I don't like clubby necks !! e.g. Baja ?? thats slightly more V ?

There's a guy on gumtree looking to trade his tele custom for a jagstang and I'm considering it !! So hence the question... I think I'd still prefer the double humbucker config though... the custom config seems a big backwards to me.

It's similar and not a very V-ish shape, it's a soft V so it's about 80% the same as the Deluxe neck, it's also a lovely neck. My second favourite of all time.

... so by extension, it's our second favourite too.

What's your favourite, the Jag?

Actually no, the Deluxe is.

I like the Jag neck plenty (and more than the CIJ's I've played as it seems to have more.. heft), but I love those big clubby 70s Strat necks (like the Deluxe has). Unfortunately they're just connected to the wrong guitars.

The Jaguar does it for me as a whole though, it's not perfect but it's a lot of fun.

I really really like the 60s classic vibe strat profile at the moment...

The Deluxe is a relabeled Stratocaster neck (big headstock, rounded butt end), and the Custom is a regular Telecaster neck with a bullet truss rod and 3 bolt configuration. Along with profile differences, the way it will fit in the neck pocket and bolt up need to be considered too.

The Deluxe has a 12" radius.

That it doesn, but we're talking profile, not radius.

Although I am a firm believer that it is the combination of both that leads to the "feel" of the neck.

Me too, that's why I had to bring it up. The 70's u-profile is my fave as of late because of the way my hand fits around it, but the one I have is from a classic 70's MIM strat and the Deluxe's I tried (while building my Tele Custom copy) felt way different higher up the neck. I didn't even know about the 12" fretboard radius until recently.

That's weird, because when I borrowed my friends' 77 Strat to make this demo I didn't really notice a difference between its' neck and my Deluxe, I though they felt pretty similar. Then again I'm not exactly a delicate or cultured player.

Probably my favourite Mike demo.

Not sure how to describe my '81 strat neck.
