oh man, put some new strings on the strat, wound G. Sounds much more natural and full. not really plinky at all anymore. I got a set of 9s and a single 52. threw away the high E on the set of 9s and strung it all shifted up one string with the 52 for the low E (so .011 .016 .024 .032 .042 .052). sounds great. super ballsy and full.

it also has a little added string tension, allowing for lower action and requiring a full 5 springs on the trem (I had 4 previously with my normal .011s). this makes the trem stiffer, while still being balanced in either direction. so it's much more subtle and useful.

also, it's hard to see in my shitty pic here, but check out these stubby height adjustment screws I got. no more shit stabbing you in the hand!

Wound G buddies! I've been doing that on most of my guitars for years now. Sounds so much better than a plinky unwound G.

I guess it depends what you're playing, the wound strings definitely have a different sound but if you're playing a bass line on the wound strings then I think it's better to have the higher strings sounding plinkier. It also makes a difference for slide usage as well!

I don't mind wound Gs myself but I DO always secretly lol to myself after meeting alt-rock types at school/the local shop who swear by wound Gs even though they are achieving ZERO sound/playability benefits with one. It's like when 12 year old girls first discover eyeshadow.
I'm sure your barred 5ths and pedal-drenched single-string slides are really realigning the planets with that wound G pulling it's weight, dudes.

I've done this myself a few times aswell, getting a different string gauge and tossing 1 or 2, i do like the feel of a wound G and i don't have any problems with bending it either
