N00b question: difference in feel and sound Jag/Mustang?

Never had the opportunity to try out a Mustang... but certainly would like to...
How do they differ in sound and feel? Pretty similar or way different?

They're incredibly different.
For a start, the Mustang has a much smaller body, and the Jaguar is a large bodied electric guitar despite being shortscale.
The Mustang has more of a twangy attack whereas the Jaguar sounds more thunky. They both lack a bit of sustain in their "classical" configuration.

Cool! Thanks a lot for the comparison... so it seems the Mustang is a bit closer soundwise to a strat than the Jag. A little more middle of the road. Right?

they are nothing at all like a strat sound really.
both are 24 scale instead of 25.5
both use a top loading floating vibrato.
the jaguar has a bit of switching options not offered by many companies.
same with the mustang, i.e. the phase switches.
you really need to try them out, and try out different modles.
there are 3 re-issue stangs you can try. and the vintage stuff is fun.
and i think that there are 7 different styles of jag to try out, not inculding the baritone, and the bass versions.
