This is what I hate most about playing guitar, when I spend a shit load of money on something complicated like the EHX graphic fuzz, just for it to stop working for no damn reason and have no idea how to fix it. So now I have a very expensive metal box and haven't found anything anywhere on the net about fixing them. Does anyone have a clue where I should start? I plug it in, hit the switch and nothing happens, no LED or anything. Is it going to be prohibitively difficult? I don't even know how to use a multimeter to see if anything is broken, or what it does exactly, so I have the feeling that this is out of my league.

ages and ages ago i sent my small clone into EHX in new york, they charged me for shipping and that was it.

No, it was second hand off ebay over a year ago.

No power up is the easiest to diagnose. Check that the power supply is working and that it connects to the board.

dont worry though, even if you cant, EHX will probably fix it for small amount plus shipping.
Have you checked the EHX forum though? there are technical discussions there, someone might know something on this.

Get on to EHX and see what they say, if they're unhelpful I could take a look if you want.

Is it the large box or small box model?

mine wasn't under warranty, it was probly something simple, but they fixed it for free, i may actually still have the shipping address on the side of the pedal...

Isn't it a bit harsh to say that something sucks just because one sample/piece breaks? I mean EHX aren't really known for poor quality are they?

I tried one and found it to be really cool sounding, especially if you have a trebly guitar and clean amp and want fat overdrive/distortion... And I bet it does other cool stuff as well. If I didn't already have my Radial Tonebone Trimode (which also has very flexible EQ) I would be very likely to have one myself ...

Thanks for the offers to help fix it, I have a friend who does a lot of circuit breaking/bending and makes pedals too so I'll get him to have a look when he's back from holiday if things aren't sorted then. It's the older version, not the XO.

There are no problems with any soldering in it, it all looks great. How do I know if the PSU itself is working properly? It takes 40v DC and I have no spares like that...

I also have a broken small clone and big muff pi but they at least broke after being used a few times...

Do you have a multimeter? You can set it to 200VDC and put the probes on the tip and sleeve of the power supply when plugged in and see if you're getting 40V

If it doesn't say DC on it, the DC setting is the one with the horizontal line above or below the V

The wavy line is AC, you don't want that.

I think it's the power supply that's busted, I got no reading at all from the multimeter.

Happy days! Definitely the simplest fix.
