First Act Lola

I played one of the mid-range First Act Lola's tonight, this one (except the one I played had the original vintagey looking first act pickups in it still, thankfully as they're pretty awesome!):
Holy shit is that a nice guitar. Amazingly comfy neck, good weight and balance. Nice rock pickups, great fit and finish. Bound set neck, mahogany body. Just spectacular for the price. If I didn't already have a les paul, I'd probably have bought it on the spot. It's a super easy player, flat fretboard but the neck did feel a little slim for me... I like'm a bit chunkier.
They wanted $250 for it and it was worth EVERY penny of it.
How this company goes from the walmart crap to this guitar.... I'll never understand.
First Act is a contender guys. Believe it or not.

I dig the Delia - could totally replace my 335.
I also like this:
It's made out of sustainable Bamboo. Come to think of it, how much is it...

Oh yeah, I totally knew that. The guys from mastodon also have their own first acts. But their is a biiiiig difference in my mind in terms of quality of a mass production frun guitar from a company known to stock the shelves of wal-mart to one offs that they have made for artist's.
I had no idea how good their production models were until yesterday... far superior to equivalently priced epiphone or squier. I'd say the quality was well into gibson range but at a fraction of the cost.
As a side note, I really wish they would do retail releases of some of their signature models. Alot of those are really cool looking guitars. I especially liek the 12 string they did for Mastodon.

i think i posted it in another thread recently, but the one they made for the guitarist from franz ferdinand is really nice.
not that it has much bearing on this thread.. but if they released this commercially i'd like to have a fiddle.

the only thing that puts me off is the fact it has snakeskin on it. i can't imagine it being mass-marketable with that either.
FRANK FERDINAND MURDERS SNAKES!

I think I would be buying the Bambusa right now if it had 4 knobs. I'm just staring at it thinking "yes".

Meh... I like teh look of two knobs waaaaaay more. much cleaner. My Les Paul feels busy and I barely ever touch teh tone knobs anyway.

Oh yeah. When I bought it it was just the body. I had to put all the hardware on it. Here's a pic.
The pickups are GFS bigmouths, they both coil split now via push pulls but I'm going to change them to spin-n-splits instead since I generally thing tone knobs are worthless.

First Act are better at copying Hagstrom than the guys that bought the brand.

I really want to get my hands on one of tehir high end guitars now. If their midline is as nice as the Lola I played, then the high end must play itself and felate you at the same time or something.
