at one time they all had trems. I guess they were trying to compete with fender

they're all obviously derivative of Gibson designs but the Olympic stands out to me as being pretty much the Epiphone version of the Melody Maker.

indeed. i have one and it's identical to a melody maker, minus the cosmetic differences. ive always been under the impression that their reason for being was to get gibson made solid bodies into guitar shops that had exclusivity deals with fender (but not epiphone, which had previously produced only hollow bodies). the melody maker body style was phased out as the wilshire body took hold.

the current white one slays these visually.

That one?

or

that one?

The top is the epiphone one
the bottom is the gibson-made USA pricey snob-alicious one.

gibson should take note that the libertines ceased to exist a few years ago...

I think you may be overestimating both The Libertines influence and Gibson's down-with-the-kids-ness.

The Libertines didn't really break America to my knowledge? Not enough to move guitars via association anyway... even the tabloids only mentioned them as a footnote in Kate Moss stories, probably had some raving reviews in Rolling Stone or whatever but never made a big splash.
It's always possible they are aiming for some of that crowd in the European market, but I think there's a lot of guitarists in the States who were into those Coronet/Wilshire Epis anyway [before/during/after The Libertines] who'll be quite pleased about these.

Aye. I suspect the thinking here is that their class looking guitars, not that some junkies used to play them. We all know that's no way to sell guitars.

If there is any band this guitar shape is associated with in America it's the MC5 or Johnny Winter(after the firebird).

I think the body on these are a little too wide for me.

I like the Coronet the best visually.

I wish Epiphone would do a proper re-ish of it... didn't care much for the last one
