very cool demo. do you think it's those brand tubes that don't match up or just those specific examples didn't work so well with it?
what do you think the tube actually does then, since it's not high voltage?

Good idea mate, sounding good! I kinda like the Tung-Sol sound, a very different gated kinda sound if you wanted a bit more variety amongst your pedals.
I was thinking about finally picking up a 12DW7 (to sort out the channel difference on the DSL50) and stick the removed JJ 12AX7 in my Vintage Tube Monster- obviously doing some A/B demo action to see how it compares.

Tubes don't have to be high voltage to amplify and distort, but they do if you want large amounts of amplification from them (but you don't need that in a pedal). I haven't got the schematic but I think it's a simple overdrive circuit with a tube at the heart of it. The tube gets warm.
I think it's just the gain rating of those tubes. It could be manufacturer related.

Would definitely be interested in this.
This thing (and the bigger brother you have) are fucking corking little boxes.
Also played Hurb's Vintage Time Machine at Doogfest, it sounds just like a DMM in all but oscillation.

It does indeed, but it can be a little brash, I like the JJ or Marshall tubes in there, I have settled on the Marshall now.
