Compressors in a live situation...

Had a first rehearsal the other night with my new functions band... where had the opportunity to really give my gear a true test run.

I was chuffed with everything apart the Boss compressor / sustainer which just seemed fairly unusable to me... it just wasn't cutting through at all, which I know is the idea behind using one. Traditionally is there a strong use for these in a live setting compared with say just in the studio ?

just curious to know what the opinions are here. Might be quite keen to out it for somethin else...

cheers
O

the boss one is meant to muffle things a bit

Maybe try a Dyna Comp or a Behringer version, the behringer is quite bright which might actually help you "cut through" when using it.

I made a couple of A/B videos on youtube a while back

i've always liked comps in live situations (and mayhaps will add one soon) for the sustain you get. the mashall edward the compressor pedal i had years ago was pretty good.
