Pup Upgrade for Vista Jagmaster

Post by crammedinabox »

Frankly I think the pups on my CIJ Jagmater sound good but all I hear is how crappy they are so I'm ready to make this thing all that it can be. I'm considering the Seymour Duncan Hotrodded Humbucker Set. My questions are.... I know this is probably stupid but will they fit? (I read a post that the Duncan Designed Pups that are in there now are slightly smaller and that I'd have to take a dremel to my pickguard). I picked those pups based on reviews but I'd rather find chrome tops that will fit without modification to the pickguard because I think they would look better (my Jagmaster is Candy Apple Red with White Pearl). Any suggestions for that? Also will changing the pots make a difference if I always play with the tone and volume on 10? Thanks

If you like the way they sound than you already have the right pickups.

Paul loves the jagmaster pickups.

Jagmaster Pups

Thanks. So maybe I don't want to waste my time and $130 making this a different instrument. If anything maybe I would build a loaded pickguard and be able to easily swap them out. I appreciate hearing that some people like them. Wish I could hear the difference without doing it.

never mod for the sake of modding. if you're happy with the sound than stay with it. fuck the haterz.

This - but if you do decide to mod there shouldn't be any problem with pickup size as long as you purchase the "Trembucker" model of whatever duncan pickup you're looking for. I assume that your friend is referring to "f-spacing", a problem that is addressed with the trembuckers.

If it sounds muddy to you then try changing pots and caps, do proper rewire and shielding. Most guitar players play with tone and volume at 10 so this is OK.
If it will still sound muddy/not pleasant to you after pots change then you might consider changing the pups.

if people who listen to you play say your vista jag pickups don't sound good, they clearly haven't heard the chinese version. i fucking love my vista humbuckers. i will be swapping out the bridge for a super distortion, but not anytime soon. i'm quite happy with them both.

good luck and post pics, would you?
