Jagzmaster Project - plans and advice

hmm. i'm taking other suggestions on the project name.. but anyway, hi.. i think this will be my first post, so thought i'd get right down to it.
i managed to pick up a silver sparkle 25.5" scale Jagmaster for a decent price with the idea of doing a few changes. first off i'm putting 2 Seymour Duncan quarter pounder Jazzmaster pickups in it. then, with money allowing, i'll get it refinished and have a custom pickguard cut.. here's some pics

the ideal 'end product'

so i've borrowed a router that should be able to cut some big soapbar shapes out of the original pickguard. then i need to solder the the new pickups in... any advice on doing this? it'll be my first attempt
also, i'm going to just try out the stock pots to start with. but i'm interested in the 1 meg pots.. what are the benefits? more high and low end passing through? too bright?
i should have the pickups installed by the weekend!![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
