Pinata Guitar

Post by ElCapitan »

My band's entering our big local competition and it's become almost a tradition now that I end up smashing something up at the end of our set for the lolz. This time I was thinking of something I could play and then smash up, but be somehow more awesome and less poseurish, so I thought of creating a piñata guitar which I can fill full of sweets and smash over the audience. I've got pretty much all the parts laying around, I figured that I'd have the central block of wood and then the two sides made out of papier mache. Sound good Shortscale?

Sounds very cool. I like that. Make it look fantastic, like a pinata.

Thanks for the encouragement, currently hacking the centre slab together. Not sure about how satisfyingly the paper mache will shatter when I smash it, I was thinking against our bassist's head.

With enough newspaper, you could make it pretty damn strong. You could even go the full route and make it entirely out of cardboard, but then sand, primer, paint, clear it so that it looks like a real guitar. In fact, you would probably make a Dano type guitar out of cardboard that you could put cheap pickups in and play. The only trick would be to make it strong enough to hold some string tension. But it's not like it has to intonate. It could be just a noise maker. Maybe some 1/8 iinch thick ply to help.

And then it has to be the RIGHT candy. They should make candy syringes and pills. Pixy sticks?

If you made a spare and then filmed yourself falling down the stairs on it, the vid would go totally viral. It would have to look like a vintage Les Paul, of course.
