Affinity Duosonic
New to the forum as i've just picked up a secondhand Affinity Squier Duosonic.
I haven't been able to find out much info about this guitar other than it was only made for a year or so.
Could anyone give me any info on it please ie how do they compare to the original Duosonic.
To be honest it plays lovely and will sit nicely alongside my Jagstang,
Cheers,
Ploppy.

they decent guitars for the money, 22.7 scale if i remember correctly, regular strat pups, i think they made them in white and black only, and perhaps they were left over parts from the fender mexi duo sonic, i think they were were produced right around the same time, but i could be completely wrong.
its one of those, you get what you see kinda gutiars.
comepared to original you say? like the 50's era duo's there is no comparison really, two completely different designs really.
the bridge was different, the pups were different, the guard, and body shape were slightly different, the scale is different.
the squier dup affin really is just a guitar that pays tribute to the old issues.
its part 56-63 and part 64-mid 70's when it was discontinued.
the bridge is more like the cbs era, and everything else is more like the pre-cbs era stuff.
cool guitar tho. got any mods in mind for it?

Thanks for the info,
Well i think the pups will be changed - the switch definately needs changing as it's a bit dodgy when switching to neck pup, other than that i'll keep it as is.
Cost me 90 notes and to be honest i'm well pleased.
I've put a new set of ernie ball 11's on it (tried 9's like on my jagstang but it wouldn't keep in tune) and she plays very nice,
Happy days!

Hmm, does look better with a black pickguard.Haze wrote:Heres my Stealth Duo that currently belongs to cooterfinger. Did a black pickguard, black robroes, bronco knobs, black switch, black black blacks
Super fun guitar, the body is routed to hell and sounds very clunky, neat sound. needs at least 11s if you ask me
Robert(original),
When you say it was made from left over mex duosonic parts, does that mean that it's exactly the same as the mex version bar the headstock decal and the neck plate and colour scheme?

How much did you pay if you dont mind me asking?
Mine was 90 quid post included and well worth it!
i got mine for 100 bucks on ebay back in 2003. then i put about 200 more into it. now its perfect.
the fender mexican duo came with slot head tuners "vintage style" tuners standard, just like the ones on your jag stang. the squier one came with shitty budget tuners. Mine currently has the stock slot heads that came stock on my RI compstang, since i put white plastic tips on that one. I also swapped out the pickups to quarter pound Jaguar pickups from seymour duncan. Seymour Duncan SJAG-3 they are called. then i changed the covers from white to black, and changed the knobs to match all my other guitars too. its a great guitar now. i have played it so much the last couple years that the finish has started to come off the back of the neck. Im not sure what they sprayed on there to begin with at the factory but it wasn't much. very comfy.
do you ready iCYBOMB?
im really happy with the guitar where its at right now in its lifespan. i wouldn't change a thing on it or ever sell it

switching pickup covers is easy and cheap, it really makes the guitar look more than its worth with solid covers too. they are 6.50 for a 3 pack.

they come on black or white. i personally like contrasting colors, black covers on a white/pearl pickguard or white covers on a tort/black pickguard.
but thats just me. the great thing about cheap guitars is you can do anything you want to them you like
