Nice little CL find

The CL listing said Fender electric guitar - $25, (the pic showed a metallic red strat style guitar laying on a gig bag). It was close to home. So I figured "For $25, What the hell". I emailed the seller telling them I would take it and set up a pickup time for later that evening. I figured its probably a Starcaster (or worse) with a gig bag.

I walk in and there is this Fender Value Pack box, In it:

Squier Strat Affinity (2004 Indo)

Fender Frontman 15G amp

Fender Tuner
Fender Headphones
Fender Gig bag
strap
patch cord
all misc parts & paperwork

Most of it is still in its original containers, unopened. Everything is MINT. The guitar wasn't ever tuned. It was Christmas gift from 3 years ago, the kid didn't like it and stuffed it in the closet. Now they are moving and it had to go.

Even though its not a treasured dream guitar, I picked up a nice little player. It does need new strings and a serious setup. The action is high and the neck looks to have too much relief. But hey, its from Indonesia. You can't expect perfection.

Now the question is, do I keep it and turn it into a upgrade project, or get it setup and and give it to my 4 yr old niece?
(she is currently beating up my first guitar - 1971 3/4 scale Kingston acoustic).

My wife is pissed because she doesn't want any more guitars in the house. Now I have to make up with her.

Set it up and give it to your neice. How can your wife be mad at THAT? Plus if she doesn't want it it can sit in her closet for 3 years until she sells it for bread :/

I'd wrap it in plastic, bury it in the garden and in 40 years sell it as NOS. Or just wait some 2-3 years and give it to that kid ... maybe 4 is a bit too young for an electric guitar including amp and tuner.
