Shame about the pickups but the sound is what matters I guess?

I'm sort of itching to get into mine to be honest, I sort of want to see the grey bottomed pickups for myself before I'll be satisfied it's all original as it was sold. They'll be hell to pay if it isn't.

right, i'd do that too. cuz you PAID lotsa $ for yours - she's a beauty, btw congrats!

long story short, i'd gotten the marshall head about 6 years ago for around $70. add cap job and back panel etc. i had about $200 in it. the cab around $200 too.
so with or without original pups, $400 for one of the last jags, with original case --- i think i did great! :D

sound is ALL that matters. If it sounds good it IS good!

as for getting into the pickguard, I'd be scared as hell. I see people disecting vintage guitars, removing the neck, opening up the PG, changing stuff...that's all fine and good on a new guitar but that Jag is a piece of HISTORY man! Just my 2 cents.

yeah but he need to KNOW it's all original as they told him. there's not much you can break or so... just take the screws out, lift it up, snap a pic for the future and close it up again.

for good sleep's sake... ;)

Indeed. I'll probably do it when I get home or something. I'll need to take off the guard to get in there with the pickups I think, but it's only ten screws or whatever.

actually, no you don't have to. on a jaguar and jazzmaster you can just pop the pickups out without removing the guard.

UNLESS you wanna make sure there's no extra routes under it...

good luck, lemme know if you need any help...
(by golly it's only some screws!)

I must admit, if it was mine, I'd have been under there already. Supremely jealous of all these new Jags.

Pat.

ps: oh yeah... now i've gotta look into that old aria diamond that i got with it. it's all working a-ok but it's got a bad ground. so... there i goooooooooooooooo!!!

I'll probably just unscrew them from above then and see how it goes.

Been busy benecol, my old chum. We don't all lead the lives of Lecturers, you know. I was PLAYING the thing.

I took my Jag apart (or bits of it) tonight and they're definitely the original pickups, thankfully. In fact I doubt the guitar has been taken apart ever before. The pickups were way tight in the guard from the celluloid shrinking and so was the trapezium plate. I had to really struggle to get the guard up (and back on, specially over the control plate) and also to get the pickups up, but it's definitely all original. No wiring has been replaced and what I can see of the pickups under the claw section over the bottom is a beige/grey colour (with a torch).

So that's put that to bed. Maybe when I restring I'll take some pictures and sand the edges of the pickguard to make the fit less insanely snug.

Yep, Jan or Feb 1966 as the guy remembers. You can tell it's a 65/66 just by the fact it's D&B though.

F tuners date it as post August 1965
Binding dates it as post August 1965
Dots date it as pre end 1966 as blocks were introduced then.

Serial says 1966/1967. So it all points to 1966.

sorry to add to the hijack pat, still a beaut even though you're keeping that guard, but -

the f-tuners on your jag confuse me mike. were they standard then? i always guessed it was a late 60's thang.

my 66RI jag (as i was told it was) has klusons. i assumed that was standard. where can i see what's most prevalent, as i'm starting to question what RI my jag is?

cheers to both of you for making me jealous!

F-Tuners were on in '66. My '66 RI has F-Tuners.

The 66RI is a little "off" to be honest on a couple of cases, it should definitely have binding for a start, and the tuners are another thing. They were introduced to Fender guitars one at a time and the Jaguar was the first to get them. August 1965 is the date most people quote for this.

64-68 was a period of massive change or TRANSITION as Fender buffs call it.

Yeah man, F tuners were put on starting it late '65. My '66 Mustang has them too.
And whats funny about the RI's, the '65 RI's have F tuners, but the '69 RI's have Klusons :?
