I'm looking to drop a little coin on some corksniffertastic pickups for my CIJ Jag - has anyone got personal experience with BOTH the Lollers & the Novaks? I know both men are Gods/Wizards capable of making my pecker longer & my tonez more mojolicious, but I'd love to hear from anyone who can talk about differences (if they exist) between the two. . .

All I can offer is that Novak is a pleasure to deal with. He made me a custom to spec bass pickup for a very reasonable price.

+1 on Novaks for the pickup quality and sound. My absolute favorite pickups on JMs and JG's.
However he never replied to my emails. It could of been that it was landing in a spam filter, but doubtful because it's never happened to me any other time. I try to pick up Novaks secondhand even though they're a pain to find used.

I hear he is a frequent poster over at offset, you could send him a PM.

Yeah, I posted this same question to the guys at OSG & found out hes a member there. I love that kind of shit (builders that make the time to be part of a 'community') so will probably go w/ Novak.

I agree, but to be honest I would say 80% of his business comes from that site.

Good point. I guess I just wish there was a good comparison of the two pickups in question. No doubt if it were Teles or Strats I could just pull up some comparison thread & hear them A/Bed all day long. . . Just like with any nice gear, everyone who buys the thing LOVES it & they're SURE its the best b/c its the one they've got, and they read that it was great all over everywhere, so it HAS to be the best, right?

The trouble is in finding any real info about how the two parts compare.

I completely agree. Pickup comparison stuff is really thin on the ground, you often have to just suck and see and hope you get lucky.
I did some before and afters when I changed my Jazzys pickups to Seymour Duncans and you could hear the difference, I guess people don't bother because it's a bit of a pain in the arse with the having to make a demo before you do all the soldering and that gubbins.

I haven't tried lollars, but I can vouch for Novaks. I replaced my jag neck pickup, and it sounds great. Also, I fucked up the first installation, and he repaired it for me for FREE.

jason lollar has the beard power.
also he's local (to me) as he's on vashon island here in the seattle area.

Yeah, I guess I should probably also clarify that I don't expect one to be better than the other. They both have perfect reputations & I'm sure both pickups are 100% top notch - what I'm curious about is if there are differences in the way they achieve the same goal. I think I'll just go ask both dudes - they probably know their own shit better than anyone on a forum!
Mike - I swapped out the bridge p'up on my Jag for an SJAG-1 and heck, just in the time it takes to do a quick pickup swap I'm sure I lost the ability to give a really solid comparison. Heck, I probably changed strings at the same time (something I never do) so that alone kills any A-B.

I missed the hilarity of this statement the first time I read it.
Genius.
