Hey I'm new here and was just looking for some advice, my brother just gave me his old Stagg (yup.) Jazzmaster copy that he used to use, the problem is that I think due to his consistent carelessness with everything he owns, he may have somehow broken the input, when I plug it into my amp it makes a ridiculous buzzing sound and the sort of nut like thing around the edge where the lead goes in, is quite loose. I've unscrewed the metal plate bit and had a look at the wire thing, I just don't really know what I'm looking at , he also said something about how it may need re-soldering. I haven't been playing guitar for that long, and am not to keen on fixing this myself, so I was wondering what you guys thought, is it easy to fix myself/fairly risk free or should I just take it to a shop and probably get ripped off with them fixing it?

When you look at the input how many wires are soldered to it? Maybe the ground came off of it?

It's a very easy fix if it's a simple solder job like that.

My guitars all have output jacks. If you try to put sound into them, they don't work very well.

definitely sounds like this to me. i had a similar problem a couple months back. like ends said it is a simple job, if you're comfortable with a soldering iron. if both wires are attached in their original places you may just need to resecure the connections.

if your situation is more complicated then that, you may want to post a picture of what you're working with.

This is what I'm seeing, hope its clear enough;

it could be that the jack is just hitting the frayed sheilding there causing everything to get grounded. try bending it out of the way. or putting a bit of electrical tape over it. or both.

And tighten the nut.

check the pots as well. its possible there is a ground loose, or the bridge ground.

Yeah the buzz decreases.

Gotta get me one. They're still fucking expensive though and they came out aaaages ago.

One of my friends has a 400D and it's really nice.

Can't justify the purchase of a digital SLR for any other reason than a vague interest in photography though.

yea I did notice the exceptional macro focus on those pictures.

ok well... how have our suggestions been working? are you still having problems?


and the guitar looks pretty cool. those staggs looks like fernandes decade copies to me, which is a bit odd when you could just copy a jagmaster. I guess they're not trying to so blatantly knock off fender since they have the offset body patented.
