Classic Player Jaguar Neck Profile Question
I have played CP Jaguars before and today I went to the store to play 2 CP jaguar HH guitars.
The thing that stood out was the the necks seem very thin near the headstock and gradually widen as it approaches the body.
I don't remember the neck feeling this way on the other CP jags I played. I thought they were thicker and more even.
Has Fender changed the neck profile or is my memory bad on this one? Probably me.
For comparison, I played a vintage '68 Mustang and the neck seemed fatter and more even.
It would be great to hear from current CP Jaguar owners on this one.

I guess I am too used to writing emails---thats why no paragraphs
The two CP Jag HHs I played are both newer stock... One still had the price tag from when Fender raised their prices this earlier this year and the other was newer than that one.
I may have to go play a used one at another Guitar Center to compare.
I have larger hands, so I notice when necks are really small at the nut. I pulled my Jagmaster and Squier Duo Sonic off the wall the necks seemed more even.
All the Guitars have the 9.5" C shaped neck.

What year model is your CP Jag?MMPicker wrote:MY CP doesn't really feel much thinner near the headstock to me.
If anything it feels a tad beefier than my '65 Musicmaster II neck.
But perhaps my senses deceive me.
If I get a chance I'll wrap some string around each & measure, but not sure when I'll get to that, kind of busy now.

2008.
Maybe your senses are tricking you. You can do the same thing i was thinking of doing; wrap a piece of rope/string/cord around each guitar neck at the 1st fret, then 5th fret, then measure the length of the string in each case. You can even bring the string to the store & do the same thing on the CPs, measure at home. If they've changed the neck specs then it doesn't really matter to you what mine is.

Every Jaguar I have has a totally different neck. There was one year when they reissued the seafoam/surf green with matching headstock and that model had a neck like you're describing. Very small at the nut, so much that it was too cramped even for me and I like small necks. I wouldn't be shocked if they tweak the Mexican models from year to year.

If they changed the neck in 09, then I need to find an 08 or older with the thicker neck near the nut.MMPicker wrote:2008.

Ok this is what I have for you.
I measured the circumference of my 2008 CP Jaguar neck as 11.2 cm just behind the first fret, and 11.7 cm just behind the 5th fret. While my 1965 Musicmaster II's neck circumference measured 11.05 cm just behind the first fret, and 12cm just behind the fifth fret.
Results, and measuring skills, most definitely not guaranteed. It was very scientific, I used the wrapper from the chopsticks I ate dinner with.
Hope this helps.

That does help thanks.
I may run out to Guitar Center tomorrow and try a used Candy Apple Red CP Jag they have. I played it a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully that will help me determine if this is in my head or real.
I love the 9.5" C shape of my Jagmaster and the Modern C shape of my Squier Duo Sonic. I really prefer the neck to be more even all the way down.
I don't think it would prevent me from buying the Jag, but it would make me rethink it some. I played a vintage 1968 mustang with complete worn down neck. I now understand the love affair with vintage guitars.

y'know, at the end of the day, if you don't like the neck, that can be important.taylornutt wrote:That does help thanks.

And yeah, i can fly around on that old worn neck with the little frets, set for low action. But I can get good vibrato a heck of a lot easier on the bigger frets of the CP, and I'm no speed wizard these days anyhow. They each have their merits.

I went and played a used 2008 CP Jaguar in Candy Apple Red today and the neck felt like I remember it playing. Nice and full. Not punny at the nut like those 2009 CP Jag HH I played on Friday.
Maybe they changed the neck for the 2009 models. I was starting to think I was just making it up in my head, but it was noticeably thicker and felt good in my hands.
They also have a white CP Jag HH I played before which is still at repair. I am hoping to do a side by side comparison. The pickup configs are so different, its tough to judge when not right next to each other. I actually liked the rhythm circuit on this one. I will definitely check the year models if I buy online.
Does anyone on Shortscale have a CP Jag HH who would be willing to do a demo on Youtube? Maybe a Classic Player Jaguar shootout. I have only seen one demo of the CP Jag HH and it had so much delay and reverb is was impossible to hear the dry tone or with distortion.
