dear fender, i applaud you in the classic vibe re-issue of the fender duo sonic with the squire logo.
the details on this re-issue are fantastic and the best to date!
i do have one problem.
1. the fret ends, kinda shitty, not worth 300 bucks.
2. the pup placement on the bridge, kinda wank, you have the space to do it, so just do it!
3. vintage amber tint? you do it on ther other stuff, why the hell not on this peice?
so yeah, got my duo around 4, stripped it in 10 mins, made a temp in 30, made the new guard in about 20. took about 20 mins to put back together, and about 30 mins to do a general setup.

i like the heal code, but can't make out the last two letters.

the guards and temp,(yeah, got ansy and took a chunk out of the neck pup route area.

i forgot to mention that i took my heat gun to the pup covers to make them look a bit older, instead they look like shit.
my goal is to try again, and get a big peice of metal brass sheating stuff to make guards like the one i made today and sell them on the evilbayz.
i should mention i had to flip the bridge pup to get it to fit properly, but yea, thats the same difference between the bridge and the bridge pup.

But how does it SOUND?

I remember somebody (aen?) getting one and saying although it looks stupid the bridge pickup actually sounds good in the stock place.

It's a modern representation... just like the old things, new things will grow on you. Next, you will be scrubbing out the Squier logo ?

But anyways, I do like your mods...

EDIT: sharp fret ends ?? the few I've played are pretty good

it sounds pretty decent, im suprised at how clean the wiring is and how the pups sound overal.
the fret ends are... not where they should be, it may just be that im too used to playing my own stuff, which i have worked on to my specs so.....
by my fingers deff catch on the frets.
im looking into getting a fender duo decal, and yea, re-decal'ing it and putting a vintage tint on it.
BUT! Im not sure if im going to go thru with all of that now, the neck is a bit thicker than i like. i think i am really just comparing to too much to my 59.
its a great guitar for 100 bucks.
i couldn't see myself paying 300+ for one tho...
and it appears that i have some un-even frets, i have some weird buzzing going on, and now that i have my fret rocker out, yeah, it needs a fret level, or rather it needs a fret level to fit the feel that i want.

it'd be cool to see it after a new decal and tint [especially the new tint]

And I do feel that the bridge PU sounds good where it is. But if a matter of a half inch is really important to your duo, by all means move it.

I'm sure if you'd sell bazillions on feebay if you made a pickguard that turned the squier duosonic into a duosonic II (with additional control plate and bridge provided from the buyer's end)

to astros idea.....even a duo II pickguard without the slider switch holes. you would have to route the guitar out for those i think

you could just put the toggle in place of the TONE knob and have 2 picups, 1 vol, and a toggley on the plate

I am waiting for one of you guys to install a mustang bridge in their Squier Duo Sonic.

I love mine. Got mine on eBay used. Couple of dings on the back of the neck and some lite buckle wear.

My frets as okay. I also agree on the need to tint the necks. All the other CV Squiers got the tinted necks. I actually like the stock pups. Middle position is actually pretty good for strumming. I wish I had gotten mine for $99.

My CV Duo-Sonic is absolutely perfect stock, and I wouldn't think of changing it. It plays and sounds absolutely incredible. I am, however, considering getting another one to do some modifications to (different finish, pickups, and perhaps a vibrato unit). The pickup placement and non-tinted neck don't bother me at all, and my frets were perfectly dressed. I guess I got one of the REALLY good ones.

Make sure to post some pics when the mods are done. Wish I had 2 of them. I hope to do a Mustang project someday.

I'm sooo tempted to get one to mod... I need to remind myself that I've just downsized my collection and it needs to stay that way. Still, I can't stop thinking of how cool a fiesta red one of these would look...

Good job. Too bad about the melted pup covers though. I would be so pissed. I really like those CV Duos. They're well built and sound great.

One cool mod would be to install a S-1 switch so you could have the "out of phase" option. That would get it closer to a Mustang sound.

Wonder what I would need to do that?
