I saw pics of one of these years ago on the interwebs... can't remember where, though. Kind of surprising that we don't see too many so-called "lawsuit" mustangs, considering how popular the mustang is in Japan. Or maybe there's loads of them, but they never get exported to the West?
I'd love to see one of these close up, it looks like a spot-on copy. Who knows, it could have even been made in one of the Fender Japan factories.
I saved some pics over the years. Give me a sec to upload them.

Didn't purplehas19xx buy that very guitar? If not, I know he has an El Maya.
That is the EXACT guitar i baught, i cant remember how much i paid, i know it was under $200
and it was pretty old, that blue finish was fairly recent.
When i tore the guitar apart it had sonic blue in the cavities.

they were made, at least ostensibly, for the domestic japanese market. american guitar makers have no control over what can and can't be sold in japan. the lawsuit that is being referred to when these are called "lawsuit era" guitars is in the late 70s Gibson filed against Ibanez but the japanese judge threw the case out. japanese guitar makers were a little more cautious after this so not engage in any more legal entanglements (Tokai took "Les Paul" off the headstock) but otherwise they continued making direct copies of fenders and gibsons.
admist the sea of clone guitars that are out right now, i'd say the world needs a lot more clone mustangs
i mean as it stands i will never need to buy a real gibson les paul, or fender/squier strat as i can grab a bootleg for much less (well maybe not less then a squier)
Cool, thanks for the pics guys! It would be cool if some of the budget makers made more mustang inspired guitars... they usually won't go past the strat/tele/LP/SG inspired designs. Do any copy guitars currently use the Mustang trem?

I think Fiveways who sometimes posts here had a Teisco Mustang. I'll ask him to stop by and comment.

Too bad there is not one decent clear picture. There were more names and brands for these, many of them are similar. Like there was the Fresher brand. The Fresher Mustang copy was called the Fresher Mercury.
