Faux Jazzmaster -> Jagomatic/Gretschmaster

Post by The Dead Ranch Hands »

I recently picked up a cheap Jazzmaster knockoff, the J&D Junglemaster. Pretty good guitar for $210. But, I thought I'd add some Jaguar hardware and some Filtertrons to spruce it up. Here it is:

I'm pretty happy with this one. The Filtertrons sound good, although I'm used to single coils and I find myself using brighter amp settings now to compensate.

I really like the sound in the bridge position - twangy and bright and present but not shrill. Second favorite is both pickups on together. The neck pickup alone is quite jazzy. I've got flatwounds on it right now, which I'm sure contributes to that. I want to try this with roundwounds in the near future.

I've also got a Jaguar mute base on order, which I figure will cover up that white space around the bridge that would normally be covered with pickguard.

Looking at that reminds of what this old surf rock guy with sunglasses did to his classic Player HH jag.

You should have used a Mustang lower control plate, it would fit better.

I agree totally, it's not often you find a good quality guitar like that for that price. It seems to get something for that kind of deal, you would have to buy it through the States, but this looks perfect. The headstock is my only gripe with it, although the neck can be swapped out. :lol:

There was a guy who used to post here and proclaim any crappy/cheap guitars that were posted as "good for nothing but an encore guitar," the term encore guitar denoting that it will be purposely smashed at the end of a concert, as with Cobain's In Utero tour MIJ standard strats, used for the audicence-expected end-of-show equipment destruction.

This brought up more peculiar implications than even I'm aware of after deeply contemplating such a statement: He hates the guitars, but would use one, but only if he knows he can smash it as soon as he's played one song on it so that he would look cool, maybe those in the audience know what a cheap guitar it is, would he wear his trenchcoat at the time?? ...agh, my brains.

I would fuck this guitar as though it were a spice girl:

$225!?!?! I WANT!

I wish Squier would get a clue and start offering more traditional jag/jazzy guitars in addition to the Jagmaster.

No, it's wrong to buy guitars so you can emulate the touring rig of a professional musician from the comfort of your bedroom. I'm not accusing you of doing so, nor am I trying to offend you (honestly buddy) but the wording of your post reminded me of one of those aforementioned situations.

Hey you bastard, I was replying to your post and you changed it so my reply doesn't work anymore.

Anyway I basically split 50/50 between a tuning close to open C and standard. I have multiple guitars and it makes sense to me to have one that stays in that tuning. For it to feel decent I need to put on heavier strings and adjust the intonation so why not have a guitar that's setup nicely for that tuning since I use it as much as I do any other tuning?

I wouldn't buy a guitar just to keep it in an alt tuning but I would keep a guitar in an alternate tuning all the time.
