so i get this call from KP today (the other guitarist, and singer in Zero Cool) saying he picked up a Hallow body for $50.00
needs a little work, and wondering what i'm doing.
i was modding some guitars (pics on that never happened as i forgot to put the memory card in my camera..)
and suggested he should bring it by.
he asked if i had any wood glue, i said maybe (it turns out the answer is no, i have no idea where my wood glue went.. must be with my soldering gun.. awol)

but anyways. we were hoping that maybe some of you cats would have some info on this beast.









we pulled it apart here, again no pics (as i'm absent minded today)
only date we could find on it was in the neck pocket, had `62 written in it
he is going to be doing the work to get this back up to nice pristine, possibly put in P90's depending on how those pickups actually are.
voltage meter showed them to be working, but plugged in we got no sound, needs some work.
if he lets me document it, i'll do a thread in the projects sub forum

but again, what do you guys know about these guitars?

also scale appears to be 24 3/4"

Never heard the name before.

'62 would be early for Japan. PUPs, knobs, bridge, and the look of the neck suggest Italy to me.

I'm guessing it's a product of Microfrets or Crucianlli.

Just found a passing reference that they may have been made at a factory in Dublin, Ireland.

That roller bridge is used on Italian-made Ekos and Voxes, though that may not mean anything.

i'm stoked to see what happens with this thing.

i really dig the looks of it. the shape especially, but also the tort wournd the pu switch. not sure about tort around pups though.

It's Japanese.

From my files I have this guitar that I know is Japanese under the Kingston brand/label which was a name for an American importer of mostly Japanese guitars.

While the body shape, headstock, and f-holes are different.

You will notice the pickup placement, inlays, and bridge are similar if not exactly the same



I think Kawai made/sourced these hollowbody guitars.



Notice the different headtsock shape but same logo/inlay on this Kawai hollowbody.

Rayner is probably another import label. I can't remember seeing that label. I think I have seen this guitar shape before but need to do more searching.

that is one of the coolest things I've seen anyone get for $50. very cool styling.

I hope the restore job goes smoothly. Doesn't look too, too bad, though.

yeah the binding needs some wood glue, and the switch needs to be replaced.

KP found out a bit more info but i wasn't really paying attention when i tlked to him on the phone.

I was thinkin when you glue it you gotta hold it together somehow while the glue dries. you might be able to use tape. but you might need to use clamps. with either approach, the more the better.

ditto. cut up bucket lids (like a strip, think of if you were to chew your finger nail off - half moonish) and then use clamps to hold it. the more clamps, the more even it dries.

the plastic keeps the clamps from indenting the wood. glue it, set it, fahget it.

but you'll probably find some way to fuck that up too (assuming you do it today )

it should be pretty easy, as that's a really clean split. looks as if it happened at the point where the finish is spiderwebbed.

the truss rod screams of japanese (i know, it's confirmed, blah blah), but those pickups are so fucking close!

i like the finish. i'm really not sure what KP has planned aside from wood glue, and padded clamps.

its a japanese one, made by the same company that made kawai. my hollowbody has the same hardware.

i like it, if the pickups suck throw in some jag pickups

you're probably right about it being a kawai but that hardware and pickups are on a lot of different guitars made by a lot of different companies in a lot of different countries. it's japanese made hardware/pickups but they seem to have been contracted to make parts for a lot of builders. I think the biggest piece of evidence, as jcyphe pointed out, is the inlay.

Green Lantern's body is not hollow, hes a human.

That really is the coolest shape ever. well almost, but its still pretty cool.

not doing a refin on it at all
