Griffin Effects Ampeg Scrambler

I picked up my ampeg scrambler clone today from bill and it is amazing! Its an exact clone of an original scrambler except with an added volume pot for getting over the volume drop you get when the fuzz is mixed all the way in.

The balance knob mixes in the fuzz and the clean signal so you can blend them together or turn it up all the way for just fuzz, the texture is a tone control that when turned clockwise it mixes in the upper octave ring mod sounds, but all the way back its just a great fuzz, and then the last knob acts as a volume control which has come in handy so far. I'm still getting used to it and trying to find my way around the pedal and find my favorite settings but so far everything on it is sounding great, it works well with all my other pedals too.

You can see it in the picture a little bit but its a black metallic finish. Looks really good.

I will do an demo probably tomorrow, but until then I'm gonna go enjoy more nasty upper octave fuzz.

Another pedal I'd love, but even I am starting to think that I've got enough octave fuzzes.

this is my first octave fuzz, I have always played my ones that my friends have and always loved them, so I finally got one, Ive got all my fuzz and distortion pretty much complete, I have a great overdrive/booster an octave fuzz a muff and a crazy modern fuzz (woolly mammoth) I am kinda thinking about getting a high gain distortion but that won't be for a while. But this pedal is great, makes me wonder how i got by with out octave fuzz before.

So, all you have control over is the dry/wet blend, the octave dry/wet blend, and the volume? You can't adjust the fuzz at all, like tone or gain or anything?

The texture knob is pretty much the fuzz tone control, the F level control when turned up can add more fuzz and so does the blend control, Its not really a conventional here's your tone control, here's your gain control. You can change all those parameters but just in a different way, ill try to show that in the video.

Cool. I haven't got my head around it, but I think you're right, it'll make more sense in a demo or in the flesh than on paper.

Ooh, not sure: wasn't meant to come across as cross. Electric Wizard all use FZ2's, and they sound comically like Electric Wizard the instant you plug them in.

Yeah I was always under the impression that the wizard used the boss fuzz pedal. But imagine if they did use scramblers as well? It would be sonic chaos, well more so than they already are.

yeah, you're right about the boss fuzzes though but i dunno..something about ampeg scramblers makes me think of EW earcrushing fuzzriffage. the ones that give you goosebumps. usually a fuzz is either too bright or too muddy, but one time i tried an ampeg scrambler and it sounded heavy but still had lots of growl/bite when you hit the strings so it sounds more powerful like waves of fuzz. mmm waves of fuzz.

Its simple Electric Wizard + Ampeg Scrambler + Weed = Opening of a blackhole of pure doom

Also throw a wah into that equation and you have complete cosmic destruction

also haet wahs. flangers, phasers, yeah, wah ? fuck off. :P

Nah you need wah in some of their tunes for extra weirdass sounds. Not like using it all the time, but maybe setting it for a certain spot like how Frank Zappa would use it. And only using it sparingly really.

yeah but i mean, only so very few bands know how to use it right, most of them just make it sound annoying and horrible.
