Hold/sampler pedal?

I really like to use the looper on the DL4 to just tremolo pick a note then let it loop while I either change tunings or change a song or something. The hold feature on the boss dd pedals does exactly what im looking for but I was wondering if you have to hold it down for it to work, or do you just press it?

If its just hold down then is there a pedal that can do something like the hold feature but you just press it once? Like a sampler pedal, but on a much smaller scale, all it needs to do is basically repeat what I just played.

I have no idea if anything I said makes sense or not, but if you can help me out please do!

my behringer dd100 has a 'hold' feature, but it's quite finnicky, and a bit annoying once playing. just have an additional pedal that is set to a really long delay, with feedback at 5:00.

Yeah I have been doing that with the DL4, but then it just turns into messy oscilation or runs out too quick, The loop function on the DL4 works great, but you have to turn the mode knob to loop and then move it out of that position when your done. I just want a pedal that has a button on it, and it samples what I just played.

i see what you mean, but in order to keep it clean, you'd have to have a delay pedal that plays whatever you last played long enough to capture a loop with another pedal. that's what i'd do anyway.

I love the old PDS Delay pedals by Digitech/Dod but they've become collectible and overpriced.
The JamMan is the modern version i suppose and although its great its also very expensive. The Akai Headrush is fair priced, just does'nt work great when you start layering with distortion imo.

Which Boss do you have? I think my DD-6 has that function but it wont split the signal, so you just end up with a mess. The three previous pedals i mentioned you can recall your sample when needed.

My Korg AX1000 Multi FX has a sample function, i use it regularly to create song ideas or jam solos over chord progressions.

Hmmm, seems an unlikely if not impossible ask- how does the pedal know when to start sampling your guitar from?

You could use the DD-6's (and millions of other pedals, I'm sure) hold mode, and just press the pedal down as you reach the end of the song/last chord BRANG or whatever, and letting it go once you've captured your bit; the length of the sample being the "hold to release" time.

It all depends if he wants to play something over the top of the sample without the second part actually being recorded, the DD-6 wont do that, in fact the Hold feature is quite useless imo.

Eh? You totally can noodle over the top of your original sample! Or am I misreading your signals, yo?

It records it though, so you end up with the sample plus whatever else repeating.

It only records as long as you're holding the pedal though- I've played lead over chords a million times with my DD-6.

Hmm.. i just read the DD-6 manual and seems to suggest you can replay a sample without layering, maybe my pedal is a duffer. o_0
Anyways, this might be useful info to isaac..

DD-6 HOLD FUNCTION
With the HOLD function, you can record up to
5.2 seconds of your performance, and then
have that content played back repeatedly. You
can also layer this as you perform something
else, then record these together (overdub).
You can keep the recorded content playing
continuously as backing and produce other
special effects.
1.
Select HOLD
Set the MODE switch to HOLD
(the
CHECK indicator goes out)
.
2.
Begin recording
Recording starts when you press the ped-
al switch. Hold down the pedal switch for
the duration of the recording
(the CHECK
indicator flashes)
.
3.
When recording is finished, playback starts
Release the pedal switch to stop record-
ing. Playback of the recorded content be-
gins simultaneously
(the CHECK indicator
remains lit)
.
*The maximum recording time is 5.2 seconds. If
the pedal switch is held down for more than 5.2
seconds, the recording stops automatically, and
the recorded content is then played back.
*An oscillating sound may be audible with
extremely short recording times.
4.
Overdubbing
When layering recordings, repeat Steps 2 and 3.
5.
Adjust the volume
Adjust the volume of the playback sound
with the E.LEVEL knob.
6.
Finish playback
Press the pedal switch to stop the play-
back
(the CHECK indicator goes out)
.
*When playback is stopped, the recorded content is erased.
*The recorded content is erased when the mode is
switched, or when the power is turned off.

ok, so with the DD6 you when using the hold function you just hold down the pedal play what you want sampled then let it go? and then it repeats forever? like a really stripped down looper? Because that's pretty much what im looking for.

It appears so.

Ahh, lameass :/

My fave thing with the hold function is just kicking it down quickly, so you end up with a megashort stuttery sample, BRRUH BRUH BRUH BRUH BRUH

We tried covering 'taste in men' (Placebo) the other week but the bassist forgot his JamMan, so i tried to sample that bass loop on the DD-6 but it was'nt having it. I'll re-investigate this tomorrow night ;)

Isaac- You should get one at a decent price as im sure the DD-7 is the latest offering.

yeah, i had a go on gavin's behringer delay clone and the hold function worked quite well.
