Natural Finish Jaguar/Jazzmaster

Post by oolu »

I've been thinking about stripping my sunburst-coloured Jaguar and just giving it a natural finish. I decided to look around the net for images of a natural Jaguar and the only thing I could find was this:

I think a natural finish Jaguar or jazzmaster with a black pickguard would look pretty classy... just a thought.

and by the way, whatever happened to the baritone Jaguar that Fender was selling a few years ago? I thought it was a pretty cool guitar, all-in-all. I didn't buy it, but I enjoyed noodling on it in the store. Nowadays though, I kinda wished I owned one.

i think jags/jazzies look weird when they're stripped, something not quite right about it.

Here's a natural Jazzmaster i found on google images:

I quite like it, if I bought it like that i would leave it. But I wouldn't strip your sunburst one to that.

Agreed. But i also hate the look of guitars that were clearly stripped of the original paint.
I'd say buy an unfinished body and finish it as opposed to stripping your current body

Mad-Mike from JS.com made a Jazzy from Ash, i quite like it. The grain is more 'interesting' than Alder and i also like the black guard/pup covers.

However, the Jag-Stang i built did'nt really do it for me with the natural finish.

I think natural stripped offsets look messed, like this Super Sonic I found a while back. It's the 3rd pic.

Hmm.. i get your point but that is an early picture, he may have changed that. Anyway, who cares, the guy is a player, i dare say nobody gives two shits what color his trem tip is when he plays live.

Personally, I think that Jazzmaster looks classy as hell... black pickguard + black pups = very nice. I definitely agree that a maple neck is way nicer looking than a rosewood one on a natural guitar... that Supersonic is one ugly son of a gun, though.

I can't say I've ever been able to tell the difference between a stripped guitar (that's been done well) and one that started it's life off unfinished... my Jaguar is a '62 reissue, made in Japan, circa 1998 i believe. I used to throw it around a lot when I thought that breaking stuff was the pinnacle of rockstardom and the finish is looking pretty haggard. I'll post some pics of it as soon as I find my USB cable.

I'd like to refinish it and I'm thinking all black or all natural.

It's a partscaster, notice the maple neck. Original guard though by the look of it.
