For the first time since I got it I plugged in the Princeton footswitch, so have the ability to toggle the vibrato or reverb on/off.
My god - the amp sounds dead without a bit of reverb!
Have come to the conclusion that this is why I never really loved the Tiny Terror or HT-5. They always sounded a bit sterile. At low volumes when you don't have a nice room to create it's own reverb, it's a must for me! Never again will I buy an amp without reverb.
Or maybe I just need a pedal for those occasions...

marshall rf-1 for life. some light spring reverb is my favourite.

although it would be nice to have a pedal with a kinda... springier, spring reverb.
the pedal is lacking that nice boing.

I recently came to the opposite conclusion. The verb in my Ampeg kept picking up static, so I turned it off. Now when I turn it on the amp sounds washed-out and bland!

I like my Behringer Verbzilla clone, took me some time to get a good sound but its still very nice.
The plate, ducking and cave modes are my favourites.
Theres a space mode thats just like that digitech space station pedal everyone wants. Its cool but cheesy.

Delay set on infinite repeat FTW!

My Fender always sounds a little weird with zero reverb (when playing non-heavy music).

OTOH, I've heard a "big rock amp" that had an internal reverb that sounded good.

I've heard they have a volume drop. Still i like what i hear going by the demos.

Awesome pedal, easy to dial in a good spring and hall sound since you only have one control.

I have the nano version, and don't notice a volume drop or any noise problems. I believe the older version had some issues with these but they fixed them in the nano reissue.

For an example of how they sound recorded, listen to Ryan Adams' "Love is Hell" album. He did use some Boss reverb, but he said in interviews the majority of it was with the Holy Grail.

I have that, too. Spring is great if you like a good bit of damping (which I do). Hall is nice, too. The "Flerb" or whatever is just a joke. I don't have a volume drop in mine. I think every pedal like this ought to have a trim pot inside the box for volume like Mike's Saltshaker so you can keep things level or boost it a bit to accentuate the effect.

I find the Hall and Spring settings to be pretty convincing and definitely very usable.

The Holiest Grail is pretty awesome but maybe a little over the top, with it's midi and 8 preset options. I came across one at the guitar shop near my house for $230... trying to decide whether or not to buy it.

I'd never get rid of my Holy Grail.

The only issue i've ever heard of the bigger enclosures was that it didn't like being daisy chained. This 'volume drop' malarky, is a lot of nonsense, as the wetter you push the reverb, obviously you'll get less of the original sound = slight drop.

I've used the flerb setting a good few times for fingerpicking. Sounds awesome. Mucho recommend. Putting a big muff after it as well results in instant shoegaze.

People around here seem to be constantly trying to get rid of their Holy Grails. I've seen them locally on Cragislist for as cheap as $50! I've always wondered why that was... that's part of the reason why I've never bought one.

I saw one in brighton going for £30. Kinda pissed i didn't go for it.

Could have resold it for double that probably.

I had the original version for a bit. Wasn't a fan. It was noisy unless it had a separate power supply. It had a level drop on the more extreme settings. But I'm pretty much spoiled by my old Fender with a circuit that I've tweaked to my liking.

Still, if you're not going to switch it on and off much, it might work okay; you can just reset the amp controls to compensate.

i hear you thom. i like to add my fender's reverb a lot. it's nice and warm sounding. helps the notes to meld a little.
i dance around settings too. if i know i'm going to be doing a lot of clean picked stuff or lead work, i like to have it on 6-7. for more general sounds. i stick it around 2-3.
reverb on full and a the DLS's jcm mode on full gain= perfect floyd lead tones with the strat.

This is exactly right - I do the same thing

do you find your reverb control is difficult to dial it just a tiny bit of reverb?

my tweed tends to go from 0 to around 2/3 (sound wise). so 1 would sound the same as 2 is

does that make sense?
