Post by brandon. »

so rondomusic has a set of files for $10...

I'd love to have a file to crown frets, would anyone have any advice as
to which file from this set to use? OR possibly another inexpensive but better file to use?

Thanks!

I have a set of files just like that called "needle files" or something like that, that I got at Home Depot. They were $10 (maybe less).

oh, and I just use the triangle one to dress the frets. and you can use the flat part of any of them to crown them. I'm no pro though, robert knows the true craft.

they are not fret crowning files. fret crowning files have a groove in the side which makes the crown.

yeah, but I'm wondering if one of these will get the job done?
I can't afford a "real" crowning file at the moment.

they're fine. you don't need that grooved file. you just shape it yourself with a flat file. it's pretty straight forward.

On a tangent; If there is a harbor freight near you, they have a 12pc needle file set for $1.99. They acutally make for good nut files.
