Faulty Reverb Tray/Tank?

Post by Boab »

I got a Fender Deluxe 85 SS amp (sold my Orange Crush30 for the same amount!) a few months ago and the only downside is that the reverb hasn't worked since I got it. The seller told me this was to do with the reverb tray itself.

However, I've checked the tray and it seems to be as it should be, all connected, no errosion etc so I've no idea why it won't work? Any suggestions? could it be a loose connection in the head or something?

If it matters, the tray is an Accutronic 8EB2C1B model.

do you have access to a multimeter? if so, check the resistance on the input and output (each separately). best to do this from inside the tank so you can just clamp the probes on the terminals of the jack. you should get a pretty low number for the input (single digits mostly) and a pretty high number (in the thousands) for the output. if not, then the tank is probably bad.
also try another set of rca cables (do solid state fenders use rca?). i had a super reverb where the reverb crapped out, i replaced the cables and it worked fine. standard dvd type red and white should do it.
if neither of those fix the problem, then it'll probably be too expensive to be worth fixing.

You can buy the complete reverb tray on Allparts for £18.98, although it could be the cables as Justin suggested.

I've found out the problem with the tray. The part of the wire/cable that actually goes inside the head is actually disconnected from the big chip part. (I realise this sounds like utter n00bspeak!!)

Is this gonna have to be a soldering job or is there any easier, cheaper way to do this? How much would a soldering iron cost anyway, since I know someone who could use one but doesn't own one.

over here you can get one that'll do the job for about $15-$20.
