Jaguar pickups

Post by Rhysyrhys »

Maybbeeee, maybee if I get a Jaguar through trade, are the pickups a certain size? I.E. I can't just fit single coils in there, I would need specialized Jag PU's?

Touch of a n00b question, sorry.

Any will fit but whether the Jag covers and claw fit the pups is a different matter, avoid triangular base Strat/Tele pups for starters. Also, bare in mind the pup routes on the scratchplate are larger than on a say a Strat, so if you dont refit the covers/claw it can look odd.

No offence to you but this topic has recently been covered a dozen times, is the search button any use on this site mods?

There is a search.

It blows a bit when you search "jaguar" or "pickups" or any combination of those because of the amount of threads that are either about Jags or pickups. Nothing really comes up with out trawling through millions of threads.

But I do apologise for asking a question that I kinda expected to have been asked a few squillion times.

Its good to know though, I was hoping that I wasn't going to have to a certain type.

Plus I love Bare Knuckle Pickups so fucking much. And I checked the site, no real jag pu's.

As most people on here know, I love Bareknuckle too (have got their pickups in all but 2 of my guitars with one more on the way). I've got P90s in my Jag at the moment, but am thinking about sending them the og pups for them to rewind and putting it back to "stock".

Like Fran has said, you're a bit limited with Jaguar pickups.

1) Most Fender single coil style have a triangular base that are too wide for the routes

and

2) Even if they do fit you'd have problems with the pickguard's pickup holes being too long.

I've noticed that a lot of single coils that don't have triangular bases are new-fangled designs that are of a solid construction i.e. lace sensors or hot rails where you can't switch covers. There are examples of people stuffing various non triangular-based single coils into the Jag pickup covers/claws etc or using a custom pickguard like I've done, but it's not often a tidy job.

The easiest and cleanest solution might be to pay the money for Seymour Duncans (or whatever's available these days) Jag specific pups.

Play guitar before pickup swap :D

There's a bunch of threads on here regarding this. Are you looking for the classic jag tone or just something unique? For jag tone, I can vouch for Curtis Novaks, I've heard praise for antiquities and even the american fender pups are good. I've had no experience with lollars.
