Something to stash away in case you ever need it, 'cos it seems to work...
My Vibro Champ was occasionally changing volume on its own. It would drop in volume for a while, similar to dialing it back a couple numbers, and then a few minutes later it would suddenly get louder again. There wasn't any nasty change in tone or distortion along with the volume change.
Because I was also getting some intermittent background static, I did the usual intermittent-background-static trick of pulling out the preamp tube and cleaning its pins off thoroughly with rubbing alcohol on a swab. With the cleaned tube back in, both the static and the volume problem are gone. Loves them easy fixes.
Also, the Volvo is cold-starting better now.
