There are probably a million of these threads but I can't be arsed to look.

Say I have the body, how cheap could I keep it, buying and building everything else but obviously keeping a decent quality?

It will always work out more than a CIJ costs new, and a lot more than a second hand CIJ. If you're looking to keep it cheap, then a project guitar is not the way to do it. You'll have to buy all the hardware from GuitarPartsResource and it doesn't work out cheap.

if you kept the wiring simple, and pups cheap, found a neck for like 100 bucks and everything else for 100 bucks then you would still have to do the work to it, so.... its kind of a better idea to get a jap jag and mod that to "decent" quility.

I has free pickup claw. And dubious jag size pickups. Probably CIJ.

I'm building a Jazzmaster from the ground up and it'll probably cost around $6-700. If you've got a finished body already then you basically build up a parts list and search around for the best prices
