So - I'm in the market for cheap cab. I was looking into a few different options and concluded that a 4x12 is to freggin big to bring back and forth to band practice, and a 1x12 is to small for my goliath bugera. So either a 2x12 or a 2x10 or a 4x10.
I was browsing GC used and found this:

I'm not incredibly concerned that it has the best sound in the world, I know my budget is incredibly minimal. Seems like a helluva good deal to me and looks like it went for £199 new. How are 4x10s in terms of bringing them up a set of stairs?

It'll still be 50-60lbs easy. I suppose it depends on how many stairs you have to climb, but I'm not even too keen about lugging my 4x8" up stairs.

I'd go 2x10 or 2x12.

Isn't a 2x12 about the same wieght?

Also, it seems there are many more deals on 4x12s and such, hard to find a cheap and decent 2x12 or 2x10. I guess I could get the Bugera 2x12, but I'm guessing there's better quality used.

my 4x8 is a Guitar Research brand from Sam Ash - someone gave it too me a few weeks ago cause it needs repair.

You can find 4x12s for cheap because everybody is ditching them now. The MGR by me has probably 20 in stock, starting at around $99 for something with Celestians. You really never need an amp that big for anything ever. They're a hold-over from the days before PA systems.

a 2x12 is around 35-45lbs, but the big difference is height. You'll have a hard time carrying a 4-x-anything on stairs and keeping your balance.

my old bassman 2X12 is every bit of 50+ pounds and its actually rather large considering.
what about a really good 1X15?
that would be able to bring the volume you want, and it would be a bit smaller than a 2X12, but it would still be probly 30 pounds or more(depending on size, wood, etc.)

I haven't seen a guitar 1x15. Aren't they primarily used for bass?

I'm also fine with a 1x12 - BUT it has to be at least 24 inches wide

The only one i've found is the vintage avatar one, and thats 250, which is more than I can pay right now. I wish the low end cabs were wider, like the valve jr. The low end vox cabs don't list dimensions, but they look small. Any cheap 1x12 that are wider than 24" that you know of?

There is a guitar research 4x8 at a local shop for $100. How is it?

fender has, and has had a few different 1x15 cabinets and combo amps including the jazz king. the old bassmans, the bassman tv 15 etc etc.
pretty much every major speaker company makes a 15" designed for guitars. granted the speaker alone costs about 70-150 bucks, and then you would have to find a cab for it.
so really, pay no attention to my post.
if you lived closer actually i have an old peavey 1x15 cab that works fine and its like 20x28 or something like that, its rather big and heavey tho, so moving it around would be a pain in the arse.

its just as heavey, thats for sure!
probly 40-55 pounds and its a bit "thicker" that my 2x12

There is always the Bugera 2x12 for 199..

hopefully I'll find a cl deal or something.

i got rid of my 4x12 and stayed away from a 2x15 due to its size and weight. 2x12 is just right in terms of sound/weight ratio for me

OK. Not worth $100. If it was $50 I'd say go for it. It's also 4ohms only, and I think the Bugera only has 8 and 16ohm outs.

buy an old solidstate peavey 2x12 amp for like $50, take the amp part out, sell it and the scorpion speakers and put your fave guitar speakers inside. bam, light open back 2x12 cab.

Or you could put the head on the floor and a 1x12 or 1x15 on top of the head.

Spec in various online places says 38lb, though one says 30lb and I don't believe it..

Looks like a PA cab or something, and a quick Google later shows that the Tri Flex series is indeed a PA series.
