this video was the first thing that made me want to buy one of the full studenty short scales. the playing here is just exquisite in my opinion. if anyone knows anything about the tuning or any of the chords he is playing that would be awesome.

i tuned to the video and he's not quite tuned to proper pitch but it's about a quarter tone lower than this:

i tried using this to find some appropriate shapes and am very confused. can anyone explain it?
It looks like the guy on the video uses mostly open chords, or open shapes if you can call it that. So my bet would be to look where he frets it and try to figure it out by ear, because those chords aren't "book chords".

pretty much. Those eaton sweaters with the red, green and yellow stripes are very typically canadian. I have one and also a scarf to match. They were made in Winnipeg by Eatons for a short period and have become rather popular and hard to find.
You gotta scour the local ValuVillage to find em.
I'm not sure if this was just a prairie thing, as I haven't seen many of them outside central Canada.
