Unless you're THE EDGE's Guitar Tech, you don't need a string winder.

I like them. When I had an acoustic the pin pulling part was useful and it can make re-stringing very fast. For the Â£2 or whatever they cost they're a handy accessory.

I've never restrung a Bigsby but you hear horror stories. Is it like a Les Paul where everything collapses/falls off without strings?

Why not just do one at a time to avoid that?

i've never had any trouble with a bigsby, it's fairly straightforward. the most awkward guitar i've restrung was that silvertone 1448 i had, it was a jizzing menace.

Needle nosed pliers/wire cutters. That, allen keys and a screwdriver are all you need in your kit.

that's all i have in my "kit".
and by kit i mean they are all sitting in various places on my desk.

my winder went missing a while ago and i've not missed it since i learned that you don't have to wind the string around the peg 9234789187 times.

No, I find restringing quite relaxing, but I do use a string winder (That I got free with a copy of total guitar in 1997).

Tis the problem with the Riviera. Even if you go one string at a time, the tailpiece trapezes yaw to one side and LAUGH AT YOU.

I hated that guitar.

The one time I restrung a bigsby, I got a bit pissed at trying to get the string ball end rings to stay caught up on the little nubbins. I was probably doing it worng but it was enough for me to not give a shit about it, which worked out pretty good for me, seeing as it wasn't even my guitar.
