NPD: Epiphone Dot Studio gets Dirty Fingers & Dream90

that's right, it's happened.

i finally got around to installing the dream90 in the neck, and the dirty fingers in the bridge. and re-added it to my list of things to demo.

the threads about getting their GFS 90's installed inspired me.

apologies for the piss poor pics, but it was 4:00 AM and i didn't want to disturb the sleeping rabbit fur to get her digital camera. (the reason the pickups are crooked is because the bezels are not mounted duh)

they blend really nicely, and the dream90 is crisp and warm at the same time. bright, i s'pose. the dirty fingers is the best sounding bridge humbucker i've heard. it's very bridgey, but also very full. what a pain in the ass getting the pots, jack, and switch out, through the f-hole. i thought i'd be smart and attached thread to each bit before i pulled it through, but they just ended up getting entwined (notice the tape). i was also thinking of mounting the jack behind the tone knob.

the whole machine is sort of noisy now, so i'll probably have to resolder some of it eventually, but i had to get everything put in before i lose it in the move. the soldering job from pot to pot, and pickup to pickup is total shit. i'll have to redo it as time permits.

i also installed a GFS roller bridge for t.o.m. adds a different resonance now, or my strings are just worn out (they didn't handle the removal real well). looks bloody great though.

thomas: yes, i'm also wiring the mustang this weekend ;) i haven't forgotten.

Can I ask what the string spacing / spread is on the new bridge? The spacing on my Riviera doesn’t seem to match up with the GFS bridge pickup as well as it did with the pickup I removed.

That looks stunning, I've never seen a white Dot before. I once changed the pickups in a semi-acoustic...never again...it took me hours.

Rosewood

it's called the Dot Studio, but it doesn't have dot markers!! how ironical

great job, hotrod. hollowbody wiring harnesses look like a pain in the arse to install.

nondas nailed it. tis rosewood, but it's the darkest i've ever seen. the goth les paul is the same.

thanks for the props bruhs.

it's really not that hard, just tedious. played it a bunch the last few days, and it's awesome. the dream90 is super.. well, dreamy. i can't get over the way they sound together.

don't hold your breath for a demo, but it will come.

Replacing the pots is an ordeal on these type guitars. So stressful replacing my old dots crap ones.

That said, I sorta miss it.
