I cant seem to find a good setting for my big muff playing with
my Jag. Anyone share there settings so i can try some out?

What kind of big muff is it?

I usually set my big muff with all the dials at almost 12 o'clock or a little more.

also, what amp? What Jag model

and what sort of sound are you looking for that would be a good setting?

Jag is a Jap Reissue one(Meaning weak pickups?)

Amp is a Deluxe Reverb

I would go for any sound thats good. Anything from Grungy to Brit Pop.

if you're only counting knobs that shape the tone, that's two.

the big muff isn't complex either. the higher the gain knob the higher the gain, the tone knob sweeps from brittle and harsh to wooly and bassy.

It might just not be the pedal for you.
I sold mine after not finding the right sound for me anywhere on the dial.

Set the sustain at 4 o'clock, tone at 10 and volume to taste. Then click on your rhythm circuit and roll the tone down a smidge. Bingo.

I love my creamy dreamer modded russian muff and I am a fan of all versions of the big muff. But it just might not be for certain people. I don't like tube screamers, but tons of people do. I really don't like tremolo but a lot of people do.

It might just be not for you man. But if it is, there's three knobs on it......get to work.

well in that case.

gain full tone 1-2 o'clock.

sustain 2 o'clock, tone 4 o'clock.

well the knobs on my muff don't really do much, they are all at 1 o'clock.

Seriously though, it matters what kind of Muff you have as to how it's going to sound. Unless you have a soldering iron and are a teeny bit adventurous.

I MUCH prefer Big Muffs and the like with the tone pulled down to like 9 o'clock or below- you get some fat midrange to play with and don't lose too many highs.

I gigged and recorded with a deluxe reverb for good while and here's my thoughts:

1. DR - Not really that great to run pedals through if you're not cranking it. Needs to be pushed to loose that bright and nasty sound you get (think b/c it has the bright cap, which could be switched out of the circut on models like the twin...but could be off my rocker about that). Problem with pushing a DR (espc. w/ humbuckers) is you start loose definition and the amp breaks up (nicely!). So you might be getting total shit sound b/c of that.

2. I found that using normal channel was much more friendly to pedals (and fuzzes for sure). You might want to run through normal, sucks you loose trem & verb but in my opinion, you have to go through this channel with overdrives, fuzz, & distortions. I'd literallly unplug in between songs a few times for awhile, until it became a huge pain in the ass and moved on.

3. For fuzz, i'd say go with a germanium unless you're going for something more over the top. I used a MBM Fuzzface clone a lot (almost every song for awhile) and it worked fine. You have to hit the sweet spot, right before it breaks up a lot on the normal channel (but this fuzz has an exctra special nob that when you're out of the mix, you turn it up and then you're back agian...don't know why, it just works like that). Then you start adding fuzz to taste, though a little goes a long way for what I do so I never needed to really lay it on thick. Silicon fuzz's just always sounded harsh, but could be a good thing if the application asks for it in my DR. Kind of like Pyschocandy harsh....so that might be what your looking for but it kills brain.

Could always get the Dano Cool Cat fuzz and give it a go, it's affordable and sounded pretty good compared to BM's through my DR.

Long and probably not too helpful but for the most part I found that the whole "Deluxe Reverbs take pedals great" is rubbish. Just dime that little fender with some humbuckers and you got fuzz for sure. It's 22w for goodness sakes!
