Help me mix a band in 1 track

This is mainly a ripoff of Aeons thread, but I thought it was different enough to warrant a new thread.

Hey, so as I mentioned in a previous thread, my setup only allows me to mix on the soundboard then go in directly into 1 track, so we got a halfway decent mix. Here it is:

Return to Sender

What I need is advice, what should I do to make it better? What EQ, Compressor, Noise Gate? I'm using logic express 7, I just need some ways to make it a bit better before I add vocals. Any advice at all, realllllly.

Disclaimer: I've only played guitar/been in a band for 2 years, so keep that in mind.Return to Sender

Thanks, I'm using a MIJ Jaguar into LPB-1>RAT2>SMALL CLONE>BUGERA V55HD. close mic'd with a crap dynamic mic.

Is it possibly for you to double track the guitar parts? You might get some size by doubling/tripling/etc up, at least on the distorted bits.

i personally like the guitar as is. over all lotsa good tones. if i was to do anything, i might bring up the kick a bit, and use just a little compression on snare and bass guitar.

no. this was our first legit live recording -- everything went into a peavey mixer, and we eq'd it best we could there by judging samples from the computer. so Im micing 1 track into one track. I don't have a USB thingamajig to do 4 tracks simulatneously, are there any on the cheap?

anyway - vocals are done, but logic 7's export button is actually missing wtf.

anyone use logic express7?

what does 'bounce' do? i tried it and it essentially exported it, with 3 minutes of silence at the end. maybe i should've stuck w/ garageband...

The link now has vocals - too loud?

More compression?

Thanks for replies

That sounds great through these tinny laptop speakers. I think the mix is fine like that. The vocals are a bit loud and the guitar is a bit quiet but it really works well in this song. It feels like the vocals should be the main focus.
Very well done ;)

Thanks - I can't really tell with the mix because im not using monitors so the bass is usually way more present when im hearing it then it actually is.

what genrea would you classify us as?

reminds me of Pacific Northwest sound (other than grunge)
Kinda Crystal Skulls
I really like the vocals, and don't mind them that high in the mix (maybe down a tiny bit, but not a whole helluva lot.)

oh, i hear a little bit of Sea And Cake as well.

Just gave the mix a good listen and I think the vocals sit very well and sound very good. I believe the drums are way too present. The guitar is there but just not pushing enough. I think if that *could* be beefed up in anyway and the drums sit a little bit more back in the mix then it would be a much better recording. Good work so far. Definitely diggin it.
