Jaguar questions i never got a proper answer to
First up. On the bottom chrome control pannel with the three switches. What does the one furthest on the right do? The other two turn the pups on and off, but i only know vaguely what this one does. Some people say it is an EQ harmoniser or something - whatever that means. What does it do? And what position (up or down) does it have to be in to activate or deactive this function?
Second. On the tremolo unit is a little buton that can be moved towards the neck, or away from it. What does this do? I assume its something to do with locking the tremolo, but ive never really understood that. So a little detail on which position does what would be ace?
thanks in advance guys.

Bass cut. Down away from you it is off, up towards you it is on and your guitar will sound thinner. Also known as Strangle switch.

There are def threads about this, but the switch is a 'strangle switch'. It cuts out bass frequency when on, it is on when it is in the same position the pickups are.crofty wrote:First up. The bit on the tremolo is a lock, when set up correctly and on, it will make it so if you break a string you'll still be in tune, you won't go sharp.

There is a link to an interactive Jaguar somewhere.

FYI. The Classic Player Jaguar HH has the strangle switch turned upside down. No idea why they would change that since every other Jag is wired as Mike stated above. WeirdMike wrote:Bass cut. I tend to flip the PU switches over. Nothing sucks like banging into one and going dead in the middle of a song. Strangle, I dont know what the hell that is for, aside from working your self oscillating fuzz pedals.Mike wrote:Bass cut. I like the switches stock, but if I ever start hitting them down while playing then I might change my mind. I still think it's weird they flipped the switched the strangle switch on the CP Jag HH, but not on the CP Jag. Just seemed to switch it for no reason. Kinda a random change.

I didn't realize they did that before I read it on this thread. I would imagine those who have that and another Jaguar might find it a nuisance to have to consciously remember which way the switch works on which Jaguar, while they're playing, no ??taylornutt wrote: I still think it's weird they flipped the switched the strangle switch on the CP Jag HH, but not on the CP Jag. I guess it's not that bad if it's just the strangle switch, since activating it the wrong way would not be a crisis, just annoying.
But why they would change the direction on just this this one version I don't know.
It's bad enough all the upper bout controls have completely different functions on the CP HH. I'm sure if I had it sometime I would, by unconscious habit, move to activate the rhythm circuit, like my other Jaguar, but shut myself off with the cutoff switch instead. But then, from what I've read, a lot of people don't really use their rhythm circuit, so maybe this would not be much of a problem for them.
As for pickup selection, I changed the individual sliders to a 3-way toggle switch, which I personally prefer; there's a couple of sources for switch plates with a cutout for a toggle + strangle switch.

I like a normal 3 way switch and considered it when I was chasing the CP Jag HH. The 3 switches is so unique and gives the Jaguar lots of character and I would never change it on my AVRI Jag. Most people associate that mod with Cobain, so it would look appropriate on the HH.MMPicker wrote:I didn't realize they did that before I read it on this thread. I have actually done a complete 180 on the rhythm circuit. I didn't realize that it had 50k pots. I can get an almost Fuzzy/Woman tone out of it. I crank the volume and dial back the tone and enjoy the dark dirt. Good for Clapton/Cream songs. It's a nice contrast to the 1M pots in the lead circuit. It will be great when I get my fuzz pedal to go along with it.

To each their own. I barely paid attention to that cobain guy, and installed a toggle on my Musicmaster II-turned_duosonic II before I even knew he had used a toggle on anything. And I couldn 't care less what he did. It's that I don't want to have to flip two different switches to go from bridge pickup to neck pickup, and I'm used to a toggle. Any "character" does not overcome what is to me less functionality. IMO the reason it is so "unique" is because the preponderance of players don't like it that way, else more models would be made like that. An AVRI is no heirloom,IMO, if I had one I would do the same, but reverse it before I sold is all. I was concerned about how it might look, but I've got it on there and, though I do think it looks yet better with the sllders, with the toggle it looks plenty good enough to me. And I'm the only one I'm trying to please with it.taylornutt wrote:[ The 3 switches is so unique and gives the Jaguar lots of character and I would never change it on my AVRI Jag. To me, the CP HH and the AVRI look nearly identical, I can't see why it would look better, or "more appropriate" on one but not the other. Unless you were in some sort of Nirvana tribute band, or something. They look basically the same. To me. If someone would rather play with a toggle, and think it looks good enough that way, they should just do it, IMO, on any of these.
Vintage ones too, unless they are in pristine original condition otherwise. It is reversible. Just change it back before you sell.
