I was under the assumption that poly didn't really change colour with age, I was therefore surprised to see my jags neck yellowed to such a degree...

Anyone else experienced this... ? Hows about the body ??

My arctic white telecaster aged to a creamy white. It's a 2006, but from sitting in the basement and being gigged, it's gotten noticeably tanner. You can tell just by lifting the pickguard off.

My silver sparkle Jagmaster has yellowed very noticeably, but that might clear up with a polishing or something.

It's about six years old or so.

my jagstang has aged a bit, the neck and the body. lots of smoke and just age in general, my body is actually finish cracked and poly isn't supposed to check.

chinese vistas will eventually all fade into the same color. Except the black musicmasters.

Not really though, but those easter pastels have all faded drastically from what i've seen. My Shell Pink bass looks like some sort of flesh.

i guess it's like that on my mustang, i took it apart when i first go it but that's years ago, haven't checked recently, but my mia p bass is older and the neck is really pale compared to the cij stang, way less glossy too. i love the neck on my stang though

now i really wanna check the finish under the pg and all to see if the sonic blue has faded lots.

there's a crack in the finish near the neck pocket

I think he sold it. I remember taking a similar picture like yours when I had a sonic blue one. It was faded in nearly the same way.

Poly does yellow with exposure - certainly UV has impacted the ones I've had or its a natural aging process. The Tele body I've got has had the clear sanded off mostly and still retains the tanning where not covered so this isn't attibutable to just dirt.

I think the key thing here is that Poly and Nitro age differently. Both will yellow over time, possibly Nitro clear might yellow more/faster and with more pronounced 'checking' (or whatever surface curing cracks are called)

my '95 strat neck has definitely aged over the years. haven't taken it off the body in ages, though.

One other difference with my 90's strat is that the finish on the neck seems to be coming away from the wood in peelable fashion like a brittle sticker. The body has cracks but not at all like the finer nitro checking. Nitro on vintage necks doesn't peel off like my poly neck from what I've seen as limited as that may be. Will post picks when I get time. The strat has seen huge amount of use time over some 17 years or so.
