Pedalboard Cases

Has anyone got any ideas as to what is a good, cheap(ish) pedalboard case, possibley with a pedalboard with it? I'm not that fussed about it actually having a pedalboard with it because my dad can help me make one. Just mainly focused on a case which I can use to take my pedals to practice and gigs without them being thrown around and crushed in my bag.

Fire away

Oh, and hope everyone had a nice Christmas.

Try Pedaltrain. They have an assortment of hard and soft cases. Their parent company, Pro stage gear, makes custom cases as well.

dude,
buy a suitcase for 15-20 bucks.
rip out the crappy pen holders n stuff.
glue plywood down on the top(it will be the bottom)
and lay velcro down.
presto, a 30 dollar custom made pedal board big enough to fit most peoples pedal collection. if you want a power source, get an 1-spot

rondomusic sells cheap cases. but they're cheap. other members have said they work fine for light/weekend gigging, but if put under much stress they have the tendency to fall apart, especially the latches.

go to goodwill and get the samosonite plastic suitcase / briefcase. They always have them for very cheap ($5 to $15) and they work great.
They are molded heavy plastic and have good latches too.

My current pedalboard/case is a $1.99 plastic breifcase meant for holding wine glasses that I got from Goodwill.
I ripped out the foam shit inside and replaced it with custom-fitted foam I xacto bladed out of a couch cushion somebody had left hanging around the common area of our rehearsal space. Paying big money for specialty made pedal cases is for Billy Gibbons.

How many pedals are we talking here? Which ones?

My chain goes Dano TOD - Proco Rat - Behringer TU300 - Marshall Echohead - DOD Wah/Volume, although I am looking to add a few more, but nothing into the realms of teh Greenwoodz.

Thank for all the suggestions guys :)

That looks nice but I don't think Guitar Center deliver to the UK. Probably should have mentioned that earlier...oops

Doooooh! Sorry, I missed you location on the profile. You can also build a pedalboard out of a travel case, so that the pedalboard and case are one.

I built a small temporary board into one of these too, works pretty well:

As far as other options go - not exactly cheap, but I can recommend both Diago and Pedaltrain boards. Depends how big you want it.

I almost got one til I noticed you have to fold the lid under for use. I hear it makes it unstable.

I'd stay away from the rondo case. Mine fell apart with light use on a three week tour. I'd follow the suggestions of some of the others on this thread, and make your own out of a Goodwill suitcase.

I have the next smallest one from this range:

It's stagg, it's unbelievably cheap for a pedalboard and it's alright. I've given mine to my brother and I'm getting the bigger one in a few weeks. The only real complaint I have is that they have no foam included, with protection relying on the pedals being velcroed to the surface of the board. That's an easy fix though if you just buy some acoustic foam from eBay. Even then, the price remains lower per square inch of pedal space than any other manufacturer.

I found the Kinsman/Stagg style ones incredibly flimsy and useless. The hinges will die on you if you use it regularly to gig, they did on me.

I got a Warwick one for small gigs/bass stuff from Thomann which was cheap (£40) and much more sturdy.
I have a Diago Showman for bigger setups.

1+ with mike.

i have a kinsman and spent about £15 to get it in a usable state. added MDF and carpet to strength the base and glued the hinges to make sure they didn't come off. not worth the hassle.
