So I have an original 65 mustang neck, love it I've had it for 20 years and my family purchaced it new in 67 (long story about the rest of the guitar) I want to put the neck on a body, but I don't like mustangs, I want something heavier and more body to it. I'm hoping something like a tom delonge strat, something like that. I want a humbucker. So my question is, will a short scale neck fit a strat body and set up right. I know the neck fits, but will it ever intonate right? Anyone done this before? Put a mustang neck on a strat or a tele with any success? Thanks

sorry buddy, it won't work, you would have to put the neck on either a jaguar, vista jagmaster body. a mustang body, a cv duo. or have a body made for you.

Thanks for the reply, well that sucks, Guess I'm going with a jag body so I can put a humbucker in it. Nice find on the wood in the attic BTW.

Why not use a Jagmaster body? That'll already be routed for humbuckers and will have a strat style bridge.

In effect, it'll be a similar setup and sound to a Tom DeLonge Strat, but with a bigger and girthier body.

You can't use a real 24" scale neck on a new jagmaster body. I learned the hard way. All jagmasters (except for the vista ones) are 25.5" scale. The new ones use a special conversion neck to get it to 24" scale.

Sounds like the Jagmaster 1 is best option here however just as another option, and in reference to compatibility, I was working on a project using a '65 Mustang neck and a 2007 Japanese HH (the one with a TOM bridge and two Humbucker routes).

Despite the age difference and metric/imperial differemce the neck fit perfectly - screw holes alined, nice tight fit etc. The only thing that would have been required is a shimming to match the extra hight of the TOM:



EDIT for more guff: Just in case you go with this option thought I should mention that there is a difference in the TOM and Neck Radius. TOM is ususally 9.5 (if the Fender Jag HH original) or 12" if standard TOM and the Mustang neck radius is 7.25". Some people don't mind these discrepencies if they like high action however I was going to file the saddle groves to match the neck.

Don't SX do a 24" strat these days? Could get one cheap and stick the neck on it maybe and upgrade the parts - I know a forum member here did some excellent upgrades on the trem of one of these. There is an article over at Jag-Stang about a dude who got an old Warmoth strat body designed to go with mustang necks which might be of interest:

A jagstang body might work nicely for you. Heavier AND more body, compatible with all other mustang parts. Won't be as cheap as the other bodies suggested though, and may not sound so good (they have a reputation for being a bit dull and muddy, which I've found with mine vs. my other Fenders).

But would a Strat body scaled down to a 24" not be in the same ballpark as a Mustang?

Anyway I've been looking into the SX shortscale strats and get this....they actually doa shortscale 24" strat where the body is actually the same size as the standard but takes a 24" neck:
