Does anyone have any experience with the 77 Reissue Mustang?

An ash body and maple fretboard sound really awesome (the neck especially cause I'm a huge Cribs fan.)
Does anyone know if the pickups are just the same as the 69s (which I hear are far inferior to the 65s)?
Thanks.

Yet again why Fender is retarded. Why the fuck do they block these imports of guitars they don't offer here!? It just jacks the price up.

Nah, decent condition Mustangs have jumped up recently. Easily £800+ for a cheapish one, and at least £1000 for a great condition example.

that price is insane. a few years ago ishibashi had these for sale. with the exchange rate then they were around $600-700 plus shipping.

Blimey. Well if the quality warrants I guess it's cool. I've not even broken the £500 mark (due to financial irresponsibility rather than elitism) until the '65 stang project that will clealy break that once completed.
Does look cool of course and would definitely want one to fondle given disposable cash. Maple neck is sweet.

70s models are always going to be less desirable due to CBS cooties and less "classic" colour options. Personally I wouldn't be anywhere near as interested in a natural or sunburst Mustang as I would in any other colour. It's down to personal taste but those finishes are much less sought after. Dakota, Olympic, Daphne, Lake Placid and the Competions are all big bucks colours.

Stewart recently sold an original here (or on ebay). About the reissues, think you can still get them cheaper when importing by yourself though. Just had a second look and sorry US guys, it's due to the weak Dollar that this stuff has become so expensive. In € it's about the same as one year ago, though it's not a killer price and you can find them a little (but not much) cheaper.

yeah, i got £750 for mine, which by today's exchange rate works out at $1,189.58. it was a '76, if we're being pedantic.

Three years ago you could get any Japanese Fender imported to the US for about $800.
I hate money.

As everyone else has said, that is too expensive. I'm guessing, by the fact you're a big Cribs fan, you're from the UK? Well, you can get the 77' RI from here (as well as the '69 and '73 ri's):
http://www.guitaremporium.co.uk/index.php?f=data_fender_japan_new_guitars&a=4. Very expensive though - £849!!?!!
There are a few good Mustangs on eBay at the moment though:
'75 Mustang. £400
'65 Refinished Mustang. BIN £795!
