So I've been mulling this idea around for a while now to build a guitar and heres what I've come up with.
Super Sonic body traced on Alder, and then flipped normally to look like a Righty Jag would.
Jagmaster neck(if I can find a cheap reasonable one. If not full scale neck.)
Single coil in the neck(suggestions?) JB in the bridge with 250k pot.
No Rhythm circuit/rollers/switches.
3 way toggle.
2 volume controls (maybe split volume/tone controls)
Jaguar tremolo/bridge.
Dakota Red with W/B/W / off white / mint guard. (unsure on the guard yet. fingers crossed)
Thoughts and ideas are appreciated.
Cheers for 2010.

Any specific reason for the 250k pot? I would go at least 500k with a humbucker.

How do you make a trace of a guitar body, especially one with contours and curves?

To Thom:
Yeah, I use 500k pots on my humbuckers, but I prefer the 250k for the JB to cut out some of the highs. I find with my playing style, I don't need it as high and I like a more rounded sound from a bridge humbucker. Since I don't have a tone pot for my Super Sonic, I just adapted to the 250k sound, and I find if I can get a good sound without having to mess with wiring in split volume/tone pots and messing with a tone knob, I'll take the easier(for me) route.
To taylornutt:
I simply got some MDF, took the neck of Super Sonic, and traced around the body using a pencil as carefully and slow as I could to get the curves. Once I had the outline, I cut it out and have it now as a template for the body shape. For the contours, I'm probably going to do free hand, with a sanding block or a palm sander, so its to my personal prefrences and what feels best for me.

I just use MDF so I can get a simple template that holds together more than tracing paper. It's also good for cutting into if you are using it to be a guideline for routes and stuff as well.
So back on topic, I am a guy who has only been exposed to a strat trem system with my guitars. Is there a tricky learning curve to getting used to the quirks of a Jag tremolo/bridge. I know that the bridge is supposed to rock but I've heard of many people who lock the bridge down and use it that way. Any suggestions are welcome.
Cheers.

Essentially the bridge is just sitting there with the tension of the strings holding it down, kinda like an acoustic saddle.

So it's basically idiot proof? I'm getting kind of tired of dealing with strat trems and the springs in the back. My idea for this project is basically a what if scenario, if Fender had done a custom shop equivalent of a left handed('normal') bodied Super Sonic.
With that in mind, I kinda want it to be a bastardized stepchild of a Jaguar, Jazzmaster and Mustang, while retaining the smaller body.

A good shortscaler demo of the Jag bridge.

I am not a huge tremolo player, so my tremolo is usually locked down. I am going to give it another go.
I am considering adding a Jaguar tremolo and bridge to a telecaster soon.

Hmm, it seems simple enough to work with, I've always wanted to experiment with a Jag trem, but haven't had the oppourtunity. I think this would be like a 'Gateway' guitar if you will, leading me to decide wether I could do a full Jaguar setup, or if it's just not for me.
Cheers.

So I've decided on a long scale neck.
For now on this project shall be called the Fender Panther.
Does anyone know a good place to source parts like trems and bridges and such for a reasonable price?
Cheers.

Where are you located?

The frigid, frozen Great White North... but I live on a border town so I can order stuff and have it shipped across the river I live on to the American side and pick it up there.

Axesrus sell the trem and bridge for a total of £41, obviously not genuine Fender but they should do the trick. They probably have other parts you may be interested in as well.

guitarpartsresource.com. dguitarparts.com is also great if you can handle early 90's html and find what you need with out pictures.
I've ordered from both, have been super stoked & pleased about both.

Alright, thanks for the info guys, I gotta put a list together about what parts I need and the approximate cost of it all.
Has anyone had experience with one of those no name Jag trems?
Cheers

UPDAYT:
It looks like this project may have to take a breather for a little while.. I had a fall the other day and broke a good chunk outta my tooth. Looks like funding is gonna be put to that now.
Will get back to this when I gots the moolah for a body blank.

Alright, so I have a body right now, 3 piece maple, weighs like 10 lbs (!)
Pics incoming.
Shitty pics, but it gets the idea across, the grain is AMAZING.

with that grain, a semi transparent dakota red would look very nice
