ok i must confess it was a bit of an impulsive "love at first sight" kinda "blind date" buy. i saw it on my craigslist-kinda internet page, for sale in mexico city. crappy blurry pics, he said it's "all original mid-80s fender bronco". yeah right. he insisted the humbucker was original cuz it sez fender on it. heh...

so i said ok i'll go get it tomorrow (yesterday), let's meet in the central bus station. 30 mins to the puebla bus station, in my car. then 2 hours to mexico city. long stroy short, i meet the guy there. really nice guy. turns out he's the guitar player known as "stoneface" of the famous (in latin america, at least) band "victimas del doctor cerebro" - look 'em up on youtube, it's definitely NOT my cup of tea but hey... ::) he sez he's building a professional studio and is raising funds for it... sold some old SG's and mustangs (ouch!).

well 15 mins later i had handed him the $, bought my ticket back to puebla and was sitting in the bus. we were about 5 people onboard so instead of watching that stupid hillary duff movie i was oodling and noodling around with the guitar. it's setup just RIGHT, loud and resonant. deliciously setup for 11s like i like 'em on my shortscales.
but i was aching to get back home to rip the thing apart. i wanted to see that rout job and was praying that that WRHB was not a reissue. i had not asked for pics or more info so that the guy won't suspect it's worth more.
well i got home, saw if/how it really made a sound (yes!), had a drink and pretty much passed out, exhausted.

this morning i had lotsa cleaning to do around the house (i'm finally having a real FLOOR installed in my gear room, so the stuff is distributed all over the house.. man i have TOO MUCH gear, geez...)

so i finally did it now, and WHOA i'm happy. the WRHB is apparently a '74, same as the pots and the whole guitar! cooool... nice route and wiring and all.
so i basically paid about what you pay for a (good deal'd) original WRHB and got the guitar for free. i'm happy. but i WILL (have to) sell some more stuff, i've got WAY too many guitars now... that i don't/won't play anyway.
only "bad thing" is that it's missing the vibrato "colette"... you guys think a jag/jazzmaster one would fit? i NEED teh vibrato!!!

so pat's a happy man. geez 2 days into the new year and i've already bought a vintage guitar, a vintage pedal (more of that when it gets here), and a correct logo for my jazzmaster. heh tis gonna be a good one... i hope! ;)

more pics later!

Pat.

oh btw, yes the pickguard is some wonderfully done custom-made plexiglass or something. white on the bottom and clear on top. and a mustang control plate to complete the looks... DAMN! :D

Wahey what a score! I would actually rock the living hell out of that. An original WRHB in the bridge of a Bronco?

Major boners. You lucky bugger! Dibs if you ever sell.

That looks like such a rockin' guitar. I would not change a thing but restoring use of the vibrato. Congrats!

Is there even a chance that it actually COULD be original? What if it was like a 1 time custom run? Seeing as the pots are the same year? OR does the routing look home-made?

How about just using a strat trem arm with some nyloc nuts?
or a variation on that theme?

thnx guys... yeah she's unbelievably nice and rockin' lookin'!!!
i'll just screw around with the magnet screws to see if it can treble it up a bit, as it sounds quite mushy. and i'll try to come up with different trem options.
and THEN i'll demo! :D

here's some more detailled pics of parts and mods:

It's mushy because it has 250K pots, you need to up them to 1Meg for that Wide Ranger...

That's a very good, clean pickup route. It looks like this thing came from the factory stock that way. I take it it's a refin then?
