Found this when i was looking for horrible accoustics in google's image search
This was a prototype Midi guitar made by Gibson in the 80s. They came stung up with all B strings.
I think it's sexy as hell, if there was a pezio pickup that didn't sound horrible I'd love to make one... I guess you could use very high output pickups and bury them under the maple top and use the volume and tone knows on your amp?
I just think it looks sleek, kinda like a barbie doll.

If I could get a kit where the maple top wasn't already bound on I might go for it...

Isn't that going to need an especially low bridge?

I wouldn't see why...
Others have burried pickups under pickguards before, I can't imagine a thin maple veneer would be that much more dense?

I was looking at the fretboard height to the body which I thought was less than normal - looks like they ran the strings very close to the body. The base for the bridge looks a little unusual to me and I wondered whether that was because they were trying to recess it.

Maybe, it's called a "hyperspeed", supposedly it was gonna be a shread machine.
I know Gibson used to test prototype stuff with regular musicians. In the early 90s my Dad's bass player was given one a bass head that looked like this for free...

Everything apart from the trem is good, but that trem looks like an afterthought.

No different guitar completely.
That is the Les Paul Accoustic, not Hyperspeed. They actually sold a few of those acoustics to the public.

The trem is a stetsbar,

it's aftermarket and was put on by the owner, not Gibson. I don't liek it either.

The black one at the top is a Les Paul Hyperspeed Midi prototype:
The one I have was a Hyperspeed version set up with all ‘B’ strings to make the tracking faster. Although I have the Photon rack unit I was never able to find a Hyperspeed cartridge to test the MIDI functions, so I have recently had it modified so it can be played as a ‘normal’ stringed guitar (reversible I may add!).
The one i posted i think is a les paul acoustic... but it could be another midi guitar. hmm

That acoustic is almost as bad looking as the new tiger guitar thingy. Gibson have some really poor designs, look at this!

The hyperspeed looks really cool at least (to me). Does it have a MIDI out? If so, it'd be a cool looking synth guitar if nothing else. I guess there is a tiny tiny market for those.
The flame top "acoustic" posted just looks too weird in the bridge area to me....all sculpted so that it looks like it was biologically mutated.
I like the stetsbar on the hyperspeed though as it gives the eye something to look at.
I think a normal black les paul custom would be better though....so there is really no point to any of this rambling.
