My Dad found an old Ibanez Les Paul in their local small town music shop and wondered if I was interested in him getting hold of it for me. From what he describes it appears to be the same as the one shown below.

So I was just wondering if anyone had any idea of what it might be worth, and what would it be worth paying with maybe the intention of selling on. It is bolt on...

Body: Arched curly maple top with tortoise shell colored bindings
Neck: Hard laminated maple, Detachable neck
Fingerboard: Ebonized rosewood with tortoise shell colored bindings
Pickups: Two gold plated super 70 anti-hum pickups
Machine Heads: Gold plated Smooth-tuner machine heads
Finish: cherry wine

I used to have a pre-lawsuit one like this, and i'm still kicking myself for getting rid of it. This might be a good place to ask about how much it's worth.

I've heard mixed things about the bolt-on stuff from that era. I often see them going for about the same prices as used epiphones around here, or a little more than hondos and the like, though people do go nuts for the set-necks...

I 've always been tempted by those seventies looking SGs...

yeah, the bolt-ons aren't worth that much. which is fine by me. I prefer bolt-on, I think it makes the instrument much less fragile and I don't really care about infinite sustain and all that. I would guess it's probably similar quality to one of those Univox LP Customs, which are not bad.

Bolt-on or not it will still be a fine guitar and very collectible. Due to its rarity (i can count on one hand how many times i've seen an Ibanez LP on ebay in 6 years) i think it will be worth between £250 -£500. To a collector depending on its condition possibly more, i'm not sure.

I've never seen a picture of that particular model before. Still, I've seen a lot of similar things go on ebay (including Ibanezes). Even bolt on the minimum is £200. A fairly tatty bolt-on Ibanez LP in a common colour like black would fetch that, so you can probably push it up to Fran's lower limit of £250.

The upper limit is harder to judge because of the rarity of that model and it being bolt-on. A set-neck and rare early artist (particaulrly a 335 type) will fetch close to a grand these days, with a set neck and rare LP being maybe £750 or so. I would guess this one to be getting bid to maybe £350 on ebay, but if for some reason that model is known about and sought after you could be looking at more like £600.

So pretty much in agreement with Fran. Prices of these are noticeably going up, particularly the high end stuff. It's harder to predict the market of the bolt-ons, but you'd be fairly safe if you can grab that for less than £300.

The headstock on the first picture is fucking delicious!

I remember 8 years ago these things would sell for $200 on ebay, set neck ones would go for $250-$300. They've become quite collectible since then, now that people have learned that they're nice guitars. I've played some of the bolt-ons, they're nice. I think the bodies are plywood, but that doesn't bother me as I'm not hung up on body woods.

The decal is rare too, your more likely to find CMI, Cimar or CSL than an old logo Ibanez.
Jcyphe would know more because he visits the Ibanez forum, there may be something about these on vintaxe too.

Aye, i remember when TS808s sold for £30 second hand. They could'nt give them away.

I believe all Ibanez guitars of this era were bolt on...

In good condition with hardcase I wouldn't pay more than £300

I had a bolt on neck CSL (ibanez) les paul and it had the nicest neck of any guitar I've owned, the only problem was the rout for the neck was a fraction to large and the neck would move slightly not enough to affected the tuning. Looking back it was probably an easy fix (I wish I’d kept it and fixed it)

Well, my dad has it in his home... the deal still hasn't officially been completed but its no longer on the shop floor. He's gonna get some pics to me sometime soon.

Aye, that's what I was thinking. Why copper? Does anything else oxidise to green? Does nickel? I don't think it's something I've ever seen.

I just found out my unused gold plated tonepros Tom tailpiece has gone green in the string ferrels. Can hardly sell on as unused with fucking hulk jizz in its guts. meh

This guitar is awesome BTW. I like the green on the pickup.
