I know someone who plays A bit so I could try to awnser your questions but seriously I would pay that for a string attached to a 2x4 that says teh kurdtz so a violin would be awsome, it could also maybe add a bit of effects or something to your band (if you play some kinds of music) .
Bottom line -----> ____________________________ I would jump on dat

he probably means the soundpost. it's not a difficult or invasive repair for someone who knows what they are doing. you need a special tool for it, though. any violin repairer should be able to do it in about 5 minutes.

I fixed up a violin recently but all it needed was the neck joint fixing and new bridge, tailpiece and pegs. It cost a bit but was easy to fix and my mum/sister play it now. They have way nicer ones though so it's the stunt fiddle for when they want to smash one or light it on fire. I wouldn't like to take on any soundboard and side repair, on any acoustic instrument really.
My friend has left an ancient fudged mandolin with me because I'm knocking out teles left and right and he reckons I can fix it, but I haven't been arsed to glue and tie (or clamp) the neck on yet, and the back is off.

That would be a deal even at $50. I bet it's something you can figure out. It sounds like the seller doesn't know much about instruments. My wife has a violin I would like to get strung, but I would almost rather get one of my own so I don't have to worry about it. Maybe I will start with the banjo.
