Jazzmaster pickguard

I got question - for what on pickguard this silver scotch tape? Looks like shilding, but very weak and strange

from what i can tell, based on the location of the tape, it is shielding, though like you said, it is a very weak type of shielding.

unless you experience a noticeable hum no, but its typical with a jazzmaster to have some as it is what with the single coils and the extra electronics. I shielded mine with copper taping however i have yet to actually finish the guitar so i cant yet say how effective it is

You could also use shielding paint. Will need several coats. I have Lindy Fralin Jazzmaster pups in my Jagmaster and it seems to work well.

I would say that the guard is intended to be used with cavity shielding organised so that the pieces of foil on the guard make contact with foil or conductive paint on the body.
