I've wanted a Jaguar since I started playing guitar in 97, but the high prices, and fact that I was in junior high prevented me from getting one. I'm now 26, and I finally got one. It's A 2008 Classic Player HH MIM. I have been very against getting a MIM Fender since getting an American strat in 2000. The MIM fenders I've played may as well have been Squiers (No offense to people who enjoy them). I've been looking for a MIJ Jag recently, dismissing the Classic Players as junk. The more research I did, the more I realized that I might be wrong. I like the features they have including a modern fretboard radius, tune-o-matic bridge, closer tailpiece placement to prevent strings from popping off the bridge, and humbuckers with coil tap roller pots and kill switch already installed.

So when I saw this one on craigslist for $450, I jumped on it. So far I've put strap locks on, put an "F" neckplate on (I hate blank neck plates), and put a set of 11's on it. What should I do next?

Congratulations! Always exciting to break in a new guitar, even if it's just new to you. The classic player series is great and is far above standard mim instruments in my experience.
I would put regular jag pickups in it and wire it back to vintage specs but that's just me, but if you like all of the tweaks you've done all that's left is to rock!

You asked what you should do next. You should rock that sucker hardcore. I really wanted a white one forever, but my AVRI Jaguar is my new baby now.

I am in love with that guitar. At present time I have no shorts scales. I will again soon

Thanks! Would you change the pickups and wiring for ascetic or sound reasons? If it was an original I would for sure, but I do prefer guitars that have at least a bucker in the bridge. The higher the output the better for me.

I would really like to compare this with a MIJ and an AVRI. The quality of this one seems on par with my American strat. Maybe someday I'll find one.

I freaking love this thing. I'm used to using 10s, so the 11s felt weird and too big at first, but now I feel like I'm actually playing better with them! I feel like I'm able to strum harder and play faster than with my full scale guitars. It just feels solid. I'm wondering if I should try 11s on all my guitars now.

So far I'd like to get a red tortoise pickguard, and probably new pickups. These pickups have 2 screws on the left side, which I haven't seen before. I wonder how hard it would be to find a red tort guard with regular humbucker routing?

Oh, and I have no idea what the 3rd selector switch does, anyone know?

i reversed the kill switch on mine so that down is on, and up is off

as i found when playing it live i kept hitting the kill switch down (aka off)

and i had AEN stencil "NOIZE" on it before he shipped it to me

looks and sound, however i prefer single coils to humbuckers.

sorry, i know this will make me look like an ANAL BAWBAG but the word you're thinking of is 'aesthetic'. i only mention it because i've seen the word ascetic in threads a few times recently and it always makes me think of monks subsisting on bread and water in cold, bare cells, rather than leafing cheerily through wallpaper samples for the guest room.

This guitar is kinda the best of both worlds, to me. I don't like it personally because of the flat radius and the little trem action, but it sounds really good

I just got my first Jag/short scale after about the same amount of wait (I started lusting in about '96 or early '97), but mine's a '66 Classic. I've played the CP HH in-store when they first came out and it felt pretty nice. Rip that sucker up!

that little card is a piece of paper that's stuck to the neck, i dont think its a shim.

From playing Mieks last year (although his has singles) i would'nt change anything on it. I suppose some nice expensive PAFs will always be welcome at some point though.

Decisions decisions

I really still want to get a white one, but the idea of a Squier Supersonic keeps getting in my way. I would really love to try to build a Super-Sonic that uses the Jaguar bridge/tremolo. That would be so cool. I may have to buy a Supersonic just so I can get the dimensions.

i'll sound like a broken record here, but consider putting in some humbucker-sized p90's. you can demo a gfs bridge pickup for $30, and the wiring couldn't be easier. if you're still way into the humbucker sound, i'd try an upgrade there, especially something with 4 conductors that would allow you to split the coils.

congrats on the jag score! i have a stock avri and an hh w/ p90's, and they're by far my most favoritist guitars 4evar and evar. OF ALL TIME.

the guitar looks so nice! i always wanted this guitar to... but i have 5 guitars now and dont want more guitars for the moment.. but sometime in the future!
